Re: Tell us who you are?
Lets say nothing about the Gemmerkat - my question - what about the mouse - was it right or wrong.

I guess we will never know, because the mouse is not on the forum and Gemmerkat will never leak that secret

That mouse? Well, he still roams the bar counters - very wary of Gemmerkatte!
Re: Tell us who you are?
Do you think that A-class can do the same on the open road as the 650? [/quote]
There is no comparison.... they are both in a-class of their own!

Johan & Ina Maartens
I bought my first bike (Honda 50cc) in standard 8 while I was working at a cafee close to where we were staying.
From there I went to a 350 Honda and then to a 440 Kawasaki. Well, that was 30 years ago and all I could do was drool over BMW bikes.
Eventually in November 2006 I managed to convince the wife that it was time for another hobby. We moved frrom Mossel Bay to Johannesburg and had to close down Diving Academy where we spent many hours training SCUBA divers to experience the wonderful planet under the sea.
It is here where we were introduced to Eric and his team. Ina was not too thrilled about the whole motorcycle thing, but she at least agreed that I could get one of these beauties. The choice was quite difficult. I wanted a bike that I could use to go to work, go on long tours and chase up and down passes like a little school boy. The K1200GT was a wonderful choice. I have never in my whole life experienced anything this powerful and confortable at the same time.
Shawn was kind enough to phone me when my bike arrived in the crate. I rushed to Pretoria in time to see the birth of my black beauty.
That December it was time for the Auteniqua Pass with my son-in-law.
I immediately realised this was not a bike to be taken lightly and I enrolled for some training at the BMW gang at Swartkop. That was the right move for me.
Now the bike just came from its 30 000 km service after 1,5 years. What an exiting life - especially after getting to know the people of the club and Eric's team a little better! It feels like a big family and Ina enjoys the bike as well as the socials.

Anyway, we had a spam infestation on an American based site with which I’m involved in and which required some attention. I normally ignore a notification in the middle of the night but when it became 20 this morning, I had to act........not that it is really anybody's business

Re: Tell us who you are?
Fortunately the photo in the Auteniqua Pass is not that clear. (I must state that this was before my training session at BMW). I was riding with Crocs and at the next turn the Croc scraped the road - much to my delight and to the horror of everybody else who knew something about motorcycles.
Only afterwards did I reflect on what could have happened had the Crocs scraped through or got stuck between the road and the pedal. I still get goose bumps just thinking about it.

Excellent choice in bikes VERY lucky that the crocks didn't get you in trouble, no replacement for proper gear

Re: Tell us who you are?
A problem with the gear is there is so many to choose from. Most expencive is not always the right product for you. But I agree that crocks is bad news

Who's Who
Hi my name is Tony Rimbault and I started biking in 1979 when I was in my twenties. Gives my age away a tad. My parents were very anti bike hence I did not own one whilst I was at school. I started on a 400 Suzuki twin that I purchased from Johannesburg motorcycles in the middle of JHB central. The bike was a grey import from Japan and had a large red light on the instrument binacle that used to light up like a christmas tree when you hit 80km/h. Needless to say it was very quickly disconnected. I rode with a friend's father who had a magnificent BMW tourer. Probably an R 80 or 100. I very quickly got frustrated and bought a 750 Honda KZ which was a magnificent bike at the time. If I now compare the modern motorcycle and handling to those bikes they were positively primitive. The Honda used to get serious tank slappers at about 180km/h which were frightening. I then got married and started a family. After witnessing a particularly bad accident on a breakfast run one day I decided to sell the Honda. I semi retired from biking for a long time, but the itch never goes away. Wheneve I could I rode mates bikes. At one stage we had a delivery bike that was used by our driver at the company that I worked for and because of the toughness we had a 650 BMW boxer engined bike that we fitted a box to. I rode that whenever I could. I subsequently got divorced and then two years ago having met a wonderful women Sharon who is now my wife decided to buy a bike again. I now have 3 sons two of whom have also been bitten. I bought a Kawasaki ER6F and very quickly needed more power. I traded that in on a Triumph Daytona 675 which as a track bike and solo breakfast run scratcher was without doubt the finest 600 ever made. The wife hated the pillion because of the suspension, hardness and the feeling of being very vulnerable on the back. I traded that on a Triumph Sprint ST with ABS and the factory fitted paniers. I have added a Givi top box which helps when I commute. The wife really enjoys this bike. We have done a bit of touring and we both love it. The cold is an issue and I am now looking at trading the Sprint in on a R 1200RT with heated seats. My oldest son rode for a while and then had an accident on his Suzuki 750 and then was knocked down by a taxi doing a kamikaze lane change without indicating on his Triumph street triple that he bought to replace the written off Suzuki. He decided to call it quits and now sits in his cage missing his bike. My middle son had a Kawasaki ZX6 for a while and then purchased an MV Augusta Brutalle 750. It is fantastic to share my passion with my sons and with other bikers.
