Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi- Im Doug - an old hippie that was really into bikeing years ago- sold my last bike 18 years ago - latly the traffic has been getting me down and thought buying a bike again was a good idea- I looked at all the bikes available - I think the BM K1300s was the best looking bike I have ever seen- well to me anyway- Its good to be on a bike again-My other hobby is sailing on the Vaal dam and playing with my Jetskis- but the bike is eating into sailing time now- my favorite bike ride is to go to the dam through Henley on a Sat morning- spend the weekend sailing and ride the bike back on Sunday afternoon - win win-

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi, my name is Daleen and I stay in Centurion. I got my Flame Red F650GS last year October as a gift to myself when turning 40! Before that I had a scooter many years ago. I am enjoying every minute on the bike and did the intro off-road course a while ago. I am looking forward to joining the GS guys soon (still a bit scared ) on my first off-road trip.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Daleen... I'm corresponding with another guy by e-mail who feels he should be in the novice group as far as GS-trips is concerned. I invited him to contact me at any time when he feels he needs some practice, and I want to extend the same to you. As I've told him, I'm always looking for an excuse to hit the road (so to speak), and I really don't mind taking it easy while others are learning and gaining confidence in the process.
The Intro course is a great start, but now you should get out there. Let me know by PM, e-mail, SMS, call, whatever

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi Everyone
My name is Wilmien from the North of Pretoria and I will be joining the Club on Friday. I always loved bikes since I was a child but never had my own. I bought a F650GS four months ago at the age of 38. Although still scared, I thoroughly enjoy riding. My self confidence is growing bit by bit and therefore I decided it is time to join the club. Love to read all the witty comments on the Forum, it sounds like one happy family. I envy all the nice pictures and trip reports but soon I will be part of it!!

Re: Tell us who you are?
Heya Wilmien - a very WARM welcome to you! I think you should have called yourself GS-Kaiki instead!!!
I see you registered on the forum in January already and only decided to introduce yourself now. I hope you don't take that long to mingle at the club meeting - ask Iceman... we sometimes get carried away and don't immediately notice the new people
And I presume you will be joining us on the club ride on Sunday morning then? Ok, great! 08:00 at Shell in Atterbury (close to the Charles Street split)

Re: Tell us who you are?
Thanks for the suggestion. Might take you up on the GS-Kaiki, actually one of my colleagues suggested the name S-Kaiki.
Yes I registered in January, by that time I was still looking for the right bike to come my way.
Are you talking about the GS ride to Cullinan on Sunday? With the level 2 & 3 dirt road?? I’m not so sure if this is a good idea for a “groentjie” like me. Longest stretch I’ve done on dirt road is about 500m.

Re: Tell us who you are?
No pressure... BUT we should talk on club night
Club rides are really a very relaxed affair and like Sharkie said elsewhere, we help each other - really the only way we learn is to spend time in the saddle!
And if there are some more challenging/technical sections, like the water crossing, there are always someone who will take your bike through to the other side (Just ask Dani how Bezuidenhouts Pass went )
And then again you may decide to only join us for a part of the route, but I REALLY recommend sticking with us until lunch - some mighty fine burgers waiting on the other side!!!

Very true!! You don't learn much inside your comfort zone............. As soon as you are out of your comfort zone and challenged, THEN you learn the most, and believe me, you learn FAST !!!

Re: Tell us who you are?
GS-Kaiki (corrected), this route is perfect for newbies on dirt. Don't worry, there be plenty hands to help, and to give advice. The entire route is level 1 and 2.
Oh, welcome to a club of friendship.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Welkom GS-Kaikie! I am also a newbie around here and already feel part of the dysfunctional family
I will be the sweep on Sunday - that is the guy with the orange/red club vest at the back, covered in dust, especially my teeth from all the happiness - so if you join the ride we will look after you nicely. This ride is probably one of the best to join in the year, as it will really not be intimidating. Just go slow at your own pace, we are not racing anywhere.
Just two things to start with - we stand (well, for as long as we are fit enough!) when we ride, as you have more control over the bike off-road, and make sure to lower the tyre pressure when we stop for that purpose as soon as we get to the gravel. If you don't know what to do, just shout and you will have a bunch of helpers to your avail!
(Tyres that are pumped too hard will give you way less grip off-road)
Hope you enjoy it here! We are not perfect, but we are the best. And for some reason talk about bikes non-stop...

Re: Tell us who you are?
Dankie Drix,
Ek voel nou glad nie ge-intimideer nie. Staan en ry? Ek het dit nou net onder die knie om te sit en ry. Ha- ha
Of course I will need help. But luckily for me it seems that there is more than enough technical and moral support.
THANKS EVERYONE
Ek skraap nog moed bymekaar
