Yes, it will surely be great to get to know our forum members!
Tell us who you are, where you're from and what do you ride?

Hello from NZ
Well let me start off..............
From Krugersdorp. Old customer off Bavariaan. Moved to New Zealand about 2 and 1/2 years ago.
The third family member also made the journey across the sea, a 2004 R1150GS Adventure.
The 1150 Adventures are very rare in NZ. So at least my bike still attract interest when I end up some where.
Some reading.

Was at the coldest rally in NZ. Takes some maneuvering on the bike in the snow.

Hi,
ek is Claudette en oorspronklik van die Oos Kaap. Ek het so 14 jaar gelede verhuis na Pretoria en is nog dol gelukkig in Pretoria. Ek geniet dit terdee om die bloed in my are te voel druis op my "husband to be, Chris" se BMW1100. Beplan een van die dae my eie GS [adrenalien junkie] en dan bietjie die speelgronde van die GS mans en dames gaan durf. Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Name's Richard.
I've been around the club far too long to remember...
I am a fan of the OLD boxers that you don't need stilts to climb on to..!
(I have a low-km R100S built in Jan1980 to prove it.)
I used to ride a R80/7 before that, but now I spend most of my time on a newer machine - a 2004 R1200GS.
Whattabike!

Wonderful - how about a picture of your 'treasure'?! ( to prove it?)
Me? Dani. Born and bred in Pretoria. A newbie to Richard's standards.
Got my first bike ever - F650GS - in 2005. 40 000kms later and 'sheer pleasure' describes it all!
I've been involved at the Club for bit more than a year now and enjoy every minute of it.
Can't wait for my hand to get better; want to ride my new 800GS . . soon!

Greetings
Hi,
I live in Johannesburg (GlenVista) and work at BMW in Rosslyn.
Born in the then Rhodesia and rode a BSA 650 Tiger speed twin...
Came to SA in 1980 and bought my next bike the F800ST last year, to get back into biking after many years of Abstinence.
I ride my F800ST daily and love it but in the process of selling it (on This Site) as i would like to up grade to a R1200RT as it offers more comfort and weather protection for the 100km ride twice a day...

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi Uwe here.
I've been riding bikes since the age of 11. We have always had BMW boxer bikes in the family, but owned my first BMW in the form of a 1987 BMW K75. I used the K75 as a commuting bike for several years, had a accident with it and took some time off motorcycling. Re-joined the fraternity in 2006 when I bought a new BMW 1200 GS Adventure which I love and have toured the country with. 35000km's of sheer bliss. Bought my 12 year old daughter a small Honda scrambler and had to buy myself a BMW G650 XChallenge to join her in the dirt. We have great fun and I love the ability of the XChallenge in the dirt. I might consider purchasing a BMW G450X when it arrives, but it will have to be a lot better than the XChallenge to make the move.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi, I'm Etienne
I started riding a motorbike in Aug2006 when I went and bought a F650GS to avoid driving to work in Midrand in a car. Good choice.
I then realised that this thing is pretty fun off the tar as well. So I went on the Introductory Off-road course at the Rider Academy at Zwartkops.
I joined the BMW Club in Jan2008 and went on my first GS trip with the Club to Mozambique in May.
I have enjoyed every moment on my GS and now I want a F800GS. (but first, a bit more cash.....)
I also bought a Honda CRF230F in Feb to improve my off-road skills, and I really like the enduro/off-road type of riding with the CRF. I will upgrade to a 250cc when the time is right.
Cheers,
Etienne

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hello all,
I am Gert, in possession of a 1200 GS Adv, purchased only last year. I had a R1100 GS a few years ago and had an off season of about 5 years. Recurring dreams of owning an Adventure prompted the (initially unsuccessful) negotiations with my wife. A weekend on a borrowed R1200C provided a negotiation stronghold that eventually gave me the green light...
I intend participating in my first GS Challenge this year, and I can hardly wait for more details to emerge from underneath the veils of mystery that surround this event.
I stay in Moreletapark, and is available most Saturday mornings for a little ride - preferably off road. Anyone interested??

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi, Jamie talking.
I’m a bikeaholic and proud of it……….shew, that feels good……..finally I admitted it.
Been on a Honda and a Kawasaki (hard to believe I know) many moons ago. Then for more than twenty years, nothing…….just all the bike mags I could lay my hands on and oh yes that wonderful stealing with the eyes thing, admiring other people’s bikes.
Then early in 2004, I saw BMW is going to launch an inline 4 cylinder bike and I thought to myself, this is the bike I want./ must get/ got to have. But wait, this beast has almost 170 bhp, surely this can’t work. Naaah I’m mos clever, I want the bike and I can ride………well did ride more than twenty years ago.
Luckily destiny intervened and they recalled the bike soon after introducing it to the world press. By this time I had too much momentum to stop, I mean this was a big decision, done my learners and all…….got to have a bike.
We made frantic plans…..see, if my wife buys a bike – she has never ever ridden before (smoke screen if there ever was one)– then I can use it in the mean time until the K is available……..clever, that can work. (amazing how creative one becomes if you want something so bad you can taste it). Luckily I came to my senses and realize, If we are going to this, we must do it the right way, regardless of the fact that I think I know something about riding a bike so we enrolled in the BMW Academy’s beginner course…….for good measure, I took the whole family along, some willing and others not so willing. In hindsight, this was the best biking decision I have ever made. We can’t stop now and followed it by the proficiency course – again all of us…….another brilliant idea.
Then, a brand new F650GS it was. What a great day, It felt I own the world and man, has this thing got power……..wow, wow and more wow’s
The satisfaction only lasted for a little longer than 2 months…….I must get something bigger, more powerful. No, I can’t, in a few more months the K will be available and then what? Creative juices flowing again – If get a R1200GS now, the misses can take full ownership of the 650 (for the second time…..remember it’s her bike anyway) and when the K arrives, I trade the GS for the K……..see problem solved.
Another fabulous day……not so intense as the 650 delivery day though
By now, I have acknowledged my short comings as a rider and went for the advanced course at the academy……took the boys with – yet another good decision.
Oh yes!……the day finally arrived, the K is in the country and the first one delivered by Bavarian, was to me. What a bike, all that I bargained for and more
My interest, sparked some interest from the boys and I was happy to let them ride as well after the training they did.
I liked the GS too much to part with it so I kept it……the collection is growing
Another year, more new brilliant ideas…….a new K and a…………...................................................................................................
wait for it.........................................................................................................................................................................
Superbike, oh yes baby. Traded the first K and sold the GS
Since then history repeated itself annually
And this year when this beauty showed itself, I was in love.
It is indeed a huge privilege for me - and one for which I’m extremely grateful for - to be able to share my (sometimes over the top) passion with my family
during the last 4 years, we have collectively done almost 200 000km together......each and every kilometre very memorable, very enjoyable and dare I say - with the exception of 1 incident - all of them safe kilometres. Needless to say we know each other's riding style backwards by now
and this is my story

There is hardly an artical on the Motorrad website without his famous name and quote in it... . I am planning on doing all the courses on offer. We have to keep biking as safe as possible
