Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi, I'm Joe, bought the S nearly 3 years ago, still goes like a charm although I don't ride enough anymore
Previous bike was a GPZ750, but I stopped riding when she was stolen in mid '90s
Might see you around town

Yes - always good to have new members registering on the forum - would be nice if more new members become more active and add their inputs to an already lively debate on the forum on all aspects biking and sometimes not so biking - but that adds to the fun.

Yes - the same applies to latin, tried to make a point - not everybody understands latin - so lets all stick to the common language on the forum.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi
My name is Paul and I am a se...., I mean bikeaholic.
I was at the Club meeting on Friday where my wife and I joined. We were also on the club ride yesterday. I ride a 1200GS and my wife the new 650GS. I have been riding a while but my wife is still a noob, although she rides very well.
I am not sure I will post much as that is not my style, if I have nothing to say, I say nothing. I am sure we will enjoy being members of the club and the forum.
Cheers
Morpheus

Re: Tell us who you are?
MadnohB requested elsewhere for me to introduce myself, so here goes:
The alias 'wingman' stems from my love for flying, both with wings and wheels. Historically always been an avid biker without a license.
Workwise I'm exposed to a variety of the Honda product, but the BMW lifestyle intrigues me, so does this forum.
Happy biking!

TELL US WHO YOU ARE
I am living in Pretoria all my life and used to motocross with a 125cc at ages 17 to 21.
Started biking again at age 41 and was a member of the club for 2 years --- long distance solo riding is my passion and since 2000 i travelled more than 340 000 km on 11 BMW's. I currently own a R1200S and a R1200GS. i am a member of the Iron Butt Association of America and i travel more or less 4000km per month socially --- i do not use my motorcycles to travel to work --- traffic scare me --- like the open roads in the country.
My birthday is on Christmas and i will DV turn 50 this year.
love your site.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi I’m STienie… pun intended
I started off as a pillion with MadnohB and it was after a weekend trip with the club (there were several lady riders) that I decided to get my own bike. I had a 650GS but other family members used the bike more than me. Also the 650 was not much to my liking so I bought a Honda VFR800. I loved the Honda but it was a bit heavy for me to maneuver in small spaces. …and there was always only the one Honda between the Beemers when we went on a trip.
It was time to replace the Viffer but after an unfortunate event at Zwartkops during a club training day(long and forgotten story), I cancelled my order for a F800 and kept the Honda. Early this year I started to look again for a replacement and after extensive research and test rides, I bought a F800ST in June 2008.
Whatabike !!! We are like a hand and a glove, perfectly fitted. The time spend together as a family when we go on a breakfast run is priceless. I never thought I would ever feel so passionate about biking but must say thank you to my hubby, sons and all our biker friends that makes is so special.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi,
My naam is Albert Gravett en ek bly in Garsfontein Pretoria.

Tell us who you are?
Hi All
We are new to the forum and our names are Chris & Carol.
I started out biking on friends 50cc Items and Garellis - how many people remember these little Italian make-believe racing bikes - chin on the tank with their clip on grips and wrap round front mudguards? Getting tired of riding friends bikes and after riding a variety of bikes I finally bought a second hand 250cc 2-stroke Suzuki TS6 in 1968 which I used for several years.
Then in 1973 it was a toss up between Honda's XL250 or the newly launched 2-stroke Elsinore MT250, eventually deciding on the MT250. This bike opened up a whole new world of biking and was used to ride several of the trails that existed around Jo'burg riding the mine dumps and along the rivers south of Jo'burg and Midrand. Then in 1974 came "The Star" sponsored "Roof of Africa Rally" and this ignited a totally new sense of adventure! I competed in several "Roof's" and "Trans-Kalahari" rallies between 1974 and 1981.
Shortly after buying the MT250 I bought a new K2 750 Honda and went out on Midmacor's then recently promoted breakfast runs to Harties starting from the 'old' Fourways Shell garage. It was on one of these runs that I met my future wife and we have been riding together ever since.
Several other bikes came and went until in 1983 I bought a very low mileage BMW R80G/S. With this bike the whole of the African continent became our backyard culminating in an overland ride through Africa and on into Europe in 1987. I sold this bike, with over 193k on the clock in 1993 to a New Zealander who was joining Ray Muller on one of his overland African trips. (Incidentally the bike performed faultlessly on this trip and the last I heard he was taking it back to NZ with him) Of all the bikes that I have owned this is the one that I have regretted selling the most! Since then I have had a few later model GS's but IMO none have inspired me more than the original. Such an uncomplicated mechanical bike with none of today's electronic gadgets.
In the interim years we have progressed through the ranks of 'super' bikes and onto RT's enjoying each for the own merits. We now cruise through southern Africa on our "Land Yacht" K1200LT- probably the most underated BMW bike ever made.
Who knows that somwewhere, sometime and someplace are paths may cross in living our dream. Until then enjoy the ride!
Cheers

Re: Tell us who you are?
I had a passion for bikes from a small age but never owned one. My dad was way too strict. After we got married, I convinced my husband that a motorbike is far better than a new A-Class, so he bought an RT from a dealer over the internet. Not long after that, I went for my novice training at BMW Rider Academy and got my bike three days before I got my learners license.
Since then I got my license and bought a brand new 650GS in September last year.
Now 20 000kms after the Lady Names Ride and I got my A-Class!!!!
