Re: F800GS riders
I can recommend the bashplate manufactured by JJ from Adv Moto, Bavarian Motorcycles stock them.
bash plate
Thanks GSing. Yep, heard about the 'no protection' underneath.
Latest from Bavarian is that I'm going to WAIT for mine.
But another cast for another 6 weeks, so no point in being in a hurry anyway.

Re: F800GS riders
It is a bit of a problem getting extra's for the new F800GS without having to wait and that won't cost you an arm or a leg!
I have been waiting since the AMID show for crash bars from Johan @ WildatHeartAdventures and will hopefully be getting it by the end of this week . . .
I have seen the bashplate manufactured by JJ from Adv Moto, looks good but isn't it a bit of an overkill?

Re: F800GS riders
Got the call from Bavarian! I'm going to do the paperwork in the morning!
Although not able to do much riding now, I will sure ride my new baby home myself.
. . . Bashplate, crash bars, any other extras that I can order in the mean time?
(not talking bling but thanks to RichardH's research: any other farkles you can recommend?)

Re: F800GS riders
great news - R U getting a yellow or grey one
I have just ordered crash bars from Wild@Heart . . .
Pondering hand protectors from BMW but when looking at the price
When I first got my 800GS the seat height was higher than expected and considered the lower seat option but since then I have gotten quite comfortable with it
Are you going to purchase panniers!!

Re: F800GS riders
Yes GSnieP, great news indeed!
the Yellow one - Will eventually change my helmet to black tho Which one do you have?
Grip protectors is a must I think? (Isn't everything pricy )
I'm looking forward to the higher seat. I've been told I look a bit too tall for the 650GS - -
Panniers will have to wait a bit - I dont have a long trip coming up soon, and if something comes up, I have a soft bag (expensive BMW650 one) which holds quite a lot and I'm sure can be fastened with a cargo net.
Not sure if there is a more robust pannier available yet? The panniers I saw at AMID seem good for the road, but wont do in the long run for off roading..
Your 'pannier opinion' ?

Re: F800GS riders
Me owns the Yellow one too It is the one only one too have ;-)
I agree with you on the plastic panniers and have also not purchased panniers yet . . . as far as 'n know and could find on the net there are no other pannier options
Me also think silver aluminium panniers will NOT look good on Yellow F800GS

Re: F800GS riders
The guys at www.bikegear.co.za has full pannier-sets for the F800GS in stock and ready to send to who-ever needs !!
They also stock a heap of other accessories for pretty much all bikes, and a lot of stuff for the F800GS, like crashbars, hand protectors, and bash-plates.
They ship to Gauteng within two days, call them on 041 466 2553 or 082 859 2808 - www.bikegear.co.za
I am getting a set of "soft-luggage" from them that will fit my F650GS, and when I upgrade to the F800GS next year, the same luggage set will fit the F800GS prefectly.

Re: F800GS riders
Yip - what a nice guy
Will be ordering Black Aluminium Panniers from him for less than the cost of plastic BMW panniers – no brainer!!!
Unfortunately he is still waiting for crash bars, hand protectors, and bash-plates . . . but if you look at the price difference of these items compared to other products out there it is worth waiting for . . .

Re: F800GS riders
I just drove from Bavarian Motorcycles to Siemens in Midrand on a F800GS Demo. My K1200GT is in for some repairs, so I really wanted to try out this new bike.
At first I found the seat very high and the footpegs more forward than the GT. I started the bike and drove ut of Bavarian Motorcycles - the F800GS felt like a huge mountain bike in comparison with the GT.
Then I got into the traffic and onto the highway. Mannnnnnn.......
What is it about this bike that makes you smile all the way? It might be the incredible sound. Then again it could be the wind against your chest. Or maybe the fantastic way this bike handles in the traffic. Or the vibration as you open the throttle and feel the power. Or maybe it is all of the above.
I am not going to get rid of my K1200GT, but I will be getting me one of these one day!!!

Re: F800GS riders
Yip the F800GS is building on the excellent reputation it already had before launching! The more time I spend on my bike the more I come to realize it is the best thing I have ever bought for myself :-)
The high seat is ‘n bit of a problem for a “kortgat” like myself, but that is in the process of been sorted out by lowering the seat by 2-3cm and the more time spent on it the more you get use to it . . .
The sensitive throttle is great for delivering the F800GS power immediately, but can get tricky off road – but the rest of the bikes handling and suspension capabilities is amazing!
