Yes - the planned route is excellent - we did parts of it a number of years ago on our own - one long continuous mountain pass - will definitely work the side walls of the tires more than the centre of the tyres.
From Barkley East - whoever said the Free State is flat have not yet travelled in this part. Did mountain passes i did not even know existed.

Re: Around Lesotho: 9-12 April 2009
Here some pictures of some of the areas:
On the way from Lusisiki to Port St. John
The Umzimvubu River in the background
Port St Johns beach
View from The Glass House
The area between Umtata and Elliot
Elliot take aways
Kraai River pass
Near Barkly East
Going up Barkly pass - was 11deg C in the afternoon
At an altitude of 2008m
On the other side it was a bright summers day. Travelling down Barkly Pass towards Barkly East. If you look at the time on this photo and the time of the photo of Dorothy at the top of the pass in the mist you will notice that there was 13 minutes between pictures!!!

Re: Around Lesotho: 9-12 April 2009
That is roughly part of the route we did in 2005. Also see you where you stopped on the Barkley East past is practically where we stopped. When doing the route count the burnt out car wrecks. Elsabe counted 110 over a 120km stretch between Kokstad and Ugie.

The pillion is probably the luckiest of all when there is beautiful scenery - the rider always has to keep his eyes on the road most of the time.
Nothing better than riding through areas like this and looking at the scenery - especially in the mountain areas - just love it!! Whether it is hot, cold, raining or not. Hopefully this time we will see the view from Barkly Pass. Tend to want to stop a lot in areas like this.

Looks awesome. Unfortunately not able to make this trip as I would just have returned from Mozambique and budget will not stretch to two holidays one after the other. Stunning scenery and roads.
