Is this perhaps the classic ID 10 T problem???
I'm too dof to get that one... ?
Mr BONd, send me your e-mail address to drix at drix.co.za and I'll send you the 4 different files (tracks/routes, less than 500 waypoints and one with more)
The two (GDB and GPX) that Dani loaded are different formats of the same route. I think the Zumo's have trouble doing tracks, dunno the details. But the gdb file (the one you get when you click on 'Drix's GPS route') should load fine if you open in Mapsource and send to your Garmin?
Can't remember what GPS you have, think it's a Zumo? Do you use Mapsource to load it to the GPS? I use Mapsource to load GDB's and with the GPX I copy it straight into my Garmin Oregon's Garmin/GPX folder.

Drix - hope you got your fuel stops planned!!
If RichardH is going with on the GS ride he can put his new petrol reserves cannisters to the test!
Hehe Ja wat, all planned - as I said we can fill up in Rayton, and even if he has a 9 liter tank he can fill up at Loskop again and should be more than fine. We must just get away promptly at 6:30 and keep stops short then we have enough time to go slow. The route is definitely easier than the Waterberg/Bela-Bela trip where the Black Knight tripped his horse. The difficulty comes in with the trip twice the distance than the usual club ride, one tends to loose concentration in the second half.
Only risk, if it rains... and the weather forecast seems to change every day so far this last week, so who knows... the last bit to Dullstroom can be clear as always, or turn misty just like that.
Just a tip for everyone: bring raingear, even if Pretoria is clear, and dress warmly (layers are the key) as it can get very cold or even quite warm. On the other hand Darren...
Another tip, whether it's dusty or mud - for both bring a wet chamois and a dry cloth (old underpants work well!) to clean your visor. I have written off a visor on this trip before, because I kept on using my glove to wipe it clear!
Last thing, remember to download LeRoy's return trips. If we don't land up riding back together I plan to take his 'going-there' route back.

Ok, all my files were tracks (gdb AND gpx) - I have now sent Admin the gdb file that is definitely a Route and NOT a Track, to update the one on the web page. Hopefully that works for you and all old Garmins that don't understand tracks so well (funny, the very basic models work fine, especially if they don't have maps built in) Which is why Zumo's are for road bikes, not GS bikes that are used off-road... and don't even think about geocaching...
BEWARE: The problem with a route though is that your Garmin MIGHT re-route it as you go along, leading you anywhere it fancy based on your settings. Which caused part of the route chaos at GS Challenge 2008 - and as far as I understand it is the reason we went down the wrong hill, leading to the one fatality. So it could get very serious, but no-one wants to talk about it or admit it as a mistake... But we should be fine for Sunday, don't worry - just nice to have a route/track available if someone really gets lost! Part of the fun is playing with the tracks - there are so many side tracks I still want to go and explore, all to get to Dullstroom. I'd love to plan a 3 or 4-day off-road trip covering a Transvaal round trip, seeing as little tar as possible as well as being pretty, not just dust for the sake of it. One day... look out for the Bushveld Shuffle...

..Basing on this I would think the run in speed limit for the TTR250 would be about 80 to 90 kph in 6th gear .

this should make coming back rather interesting

Re: Dullstroom GS ride
Luckily I driven or rode through Dullstroom and area so many times already that I don't need a GPS to get home. Besides I still need to get a new GPS mount for the TT250R before I can use my GPS.
Also found out that I must keep the rev below 6000. The fuel tank is 12.3 liter and 4.0 l per 100 km at 120 km/h.

Nope - you don't need a GPS to get home on the new bike - only an extra day at 80km/h.

The weather forecast keeps on changing - could rain here and not there or vice versa. Bottom line, I'm going, rain or sunshine, even if I am the only one!
Want to prove the Dark Side wrong that the club is a bunch of fair weather woozies... (No pressure - if you only want to ride when conditions are ideal, that's fine, nothing wrong. For me, it becomes a challenge and opportunity to improve my skills - route picking on a micro and macro scale included! I like to ride hard, but safe.)
BON, did you get your GPS sorted with the route? Does it work now?

Re: Dullstroom GS ride
... must be honest, I was one of the anti-club/anti-establishment okes before (and still avoid the gang thing where it involves black leather and badges... ) but had to give it a try to ride less solo.
Something to do with my wife getting worried about my age and the amount of blood pressure pills...
And yes, I still seem to favour a different type of ride to what we do, but I love the variety of the safe riding and I truly love just being on the bike. Anywhere. And in the togetherness I have found what I didn't expect - the clichι of 'shared riding experience' turned out to be real!
Ok, group hug. Now let's ride and find a geocache!

A different view of the above saying is that a newbie like me learns a lot from the more experienced guys (and gals ) in the group....by them sharing....their riding....experience! Get it:?:

Re: Dullstroom GS ride
Cool!
Looks like the weather is promising for the weekend. From what I see the temperature will be cold but not freezing, and also not too hot at its warmest. Seems like a dry start and ride, possibly a few pieces of mud, just enough to dirty the bikes so we don't look like roadies/tarmacs/S's, but not enough to be deep or unpleasant!

Aww.. Dave!!!
Be positive.
Pretoria and Witbank tomorrow: "Partly cloudy".
as they say: This is my forecast and I'm sticking to it.
Forecast: Sunday, 10 May 2009
Min: 8°C Max: 20°C
Weather: Partly cloudy
Wind: Light Northerly
Sunrise: 06:35 Sunset: 17:32
Moonrise: 18:19 Moonset: 07:42
Moonphase: Full Moon
Compare the SUNRISE TIME with the DEPARTURE TIME... now THAT's where I need to stay positive!
But then again.. it's Full Moon!

Re: Dullstroom GS ride
You guys are probably now somewhere on a gravel road between Pretoria and Dullstroom (or searching for a geocaching point somewhere) and I am at home! Unfortunately, due to some IDIOT tackling me at the cricket, I hurt my back and thought it best not to join! However, I must admit that I am extremely jealous and surely regretting my decision to stay at home!!!!
