die kort laaitie loop sover nog mettie voet............
Ag moet-ie worry nie Deon - we have a spare bike, the Skygo - good as new - not even 500km's on the clock and still due to have it's first service. Uhmm only one problem, you'll need to leave end April though to get there by end May ... only pulling your "socks", we sure can make a plan. It'll be good to have the same fantastic group of people and great crowd going - hier kom alweer 'n lekker kuiertjie
Can't wait!
Oh and Louis...

Confirmed - We are going with - how and where do I pay for registration??
...about the booking Dave and I have the honeymoon suite so no point in asking for that one... early bird catches the worm (ag! I meant the better room)

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Have you not secured accommodation at the Sports Resort yet. Otherwise you can try The Nest. Person to contact is Nicolette@traveliafrica.co.za - they handle all accommodation bookings for both venues. Otherwis contact Renier - he might be able to help you. Send PM.
Dont seem as if somebody is going to organise a ride together here. I have plotted the most direct route there and 2 different routes back - will get Admin to post them. We are meeting Andre Botha at the Mobil Quick Stop on the N3 just before the Villiers toll gate at 13:00 on 29 May 09. Whoever is there then can join us.
Will be nice to have another LT on the ride.

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
how about a slightly different approach............
Instead of a nominated ride lead, let's just ride as a group......all that want to go with. We decide on a route, departure point and time and just go.
This way there is no extra pressure/behind the scenes work for any one individual.
just asking.........

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Nice idea,Jamie.
Last year we decided to meet at the Midrand Ultra City, leaving at 09h00. Renier was to lead the group, which he did. The route was via Villiers, Kestell,Bergville, arriving at the Resort at 16h00.
I am sure we can do something similar without a 'designated leader', but still as a group.
My vote would be for a similar route as in 2008, with any other ideas also being taken into consideration.
Also just asking........

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Ek kon nog plek kry in "The Nest"

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Oliviershoek pas - is at this point in time very bad in lieu of potholes - large enough to park your bike in on the side - gives a new meaning to the principle of a speed trap - with the emphasis on the trap.
We (Myself and Andre) will be leaving as mentioned - cannot get away earlier - for the late riders - you know where to meet us. Other than that - tend to agree with Jamie - nothing formal/no presure.
I have worked out an alternative route for the ride back - will send it to Dani - whoever wants to use it????

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
The planned route to the ABBG looks a bit 'short' but suppose that is for the 'afternoon crowd'.
Me and Dorothy are taking the day off and will be taking the more scenic route via Heilbron, Bethlehem, Clarens, Golden Gate, Sterkfontein Dam, Oliviershoek pass (will just have to go slow here!) and on to Champagne Sports Resort. 568km.
Will leave at 08:30 so as to miss the morning traffic and take a nice easy ride - have the whole day to get there.

Between Heilbron and Bethlehem: I guess you guys are considering going via Petrus Steyn and Lindley.....huge roadworks on the road between Petrus Steyn and Reitz.

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Those road works have been going on for about six months already - were still busy when we did the route in April.
If they are still busy we will go the Lindley route - the road to Reitz was closed at the Lindley turnoff so can make a call when we are there - go straight or turn right!
The Lindley detour is only 6km longer.

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Seems we have the same problem - whichever way you plot it, it is always to long. Yes the route i plotted fro Friday is not the scenic route - as mentioned we will be gettting away a bit later than Dave - the final time of meeting Andre at Villiers - is still to be confirmed - will do so closer to the time.
But for Sunday - well the route speaks for itself. Is the itenary for the ABBG available somewhere?????.

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
Time is running out and the ABBG is getting closer. I have seen Dave's departure time - we will be meeting Andre at 11:00 at the Engen on the left hand side of the road just before the Villiers Tollgate.
We will depart from Pretoria (Tukkies Main Campus - Picking Elsabe up at work) at 10:00 - so all things being perfect we will be at the rendesvous at 11:00.
Those of you wanting to joing are welcome - we are alreay 3 bikes. Although we will be leaving later, and will be keeping to the N3 mostly we will still keep it leasury and stop regularly. One of the plannes stops being the Little Church at the top of Van Reenens.
Regards and if we dont see you on the road see you there.

Re: BMW Biker Gathering: 29 - 31 May 2009 (ABBG)
My intention was to leave Pretoria (Unisa campus) a bit earlier and to be at the Villiers Engen garage roundabout 10:30. Maybe I can wait a while (at Villiers) and informally join the group for the rest of the journey?
One “technical” point.....I still do not have the necessary software to get the proposed route (and back) on my Nuvi and I’m not sure if I am going to find time before we leave to get the software and to do the necessary downloads. Is it perhaps possible to publish those routes here to be printed?

Yes, if you mean the picture format of the map, I'll do so.
