Annual Sabie GS Challenge 2010
Join us for an unforgettable weekend
of adventure riding & camping on the banks of the Sabie River.
This is a weekend of motorcycling so all your overnight and camping gear must come on your GS! No cars!
PARTICIPATION GUIDE
……..… Please read carefully ………..
The event takes place in the picturesque Sabie River Valley,
between the towns of Sabie & Hazyview, on the Weekend of
Thursday 11th, Friday 12th, Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th March 2010.
This is a weekend of motorcycling so all your overnight
and camping gear must come on your GS! No cars!
FRIDAY’S FOREST RIDE: A scenic forest ride around the town of Sabie that will accommodate all riders including a GPS competition and lots of photo opportunities.
X - SCRAMBLE COMPLETION EVENT: Consists of an enduro course where the participants are to complete as many laps in a set time. Individual or team entries welcome and is aimed at the HP2, X-Challenge and G450 BMW Motorcycles. This is not a race!
SATURDAY ROUTES: There will be 3 route disciplines –
* Green Route: - An easy going route to enjoy the scenery and enjoy some photo opportunities, this is for the less experienced.
* Red Route: - For the more experienced rider looking for a challenge, expect some technical sections.
* Black Route: - This will branch off the Red Route; it is being designed by Technical Thomas, so expect the worst! His dastardly eye will seek out some really technical terrain for you to test your skills and your GS’s capabilities - only for the experienced rider. Knobblies will be advantageous.
SKILLS CHALLENGE: - This will be conducted on a laid out course and contestants will be judged on their riding skills across a variety of obstacles, prizes will be awarded to the top 10 finalists! All dual purpose BMW motorcycles will be accommodated.
GPS COMPETITION: Will take place over the whole weekend. Some at the event site and on the Friday & Saturday routes.

YOU SUPPLY:
* Own motorcycle - licensed BMW dual purpose only
* Tent
* Sleeping equipment
* Clothing & toiletries
* Torch
* Cellular phone & charger (in case of emergency - ICE)
* Towel (shower / swimming)
* Riding gear in good repair. For hot weather a motocross shirt or vented jacket advisable and for wet weather waterproof protection for the rides.
* A small rucksack & camel pack to carry water for the ride
* Tyre repair kit
* Camera
* GPS - optional not essential
* COST - R1950-00 each per rider / per pillion / per child. NO REFUNDS or place swopping
OTHER:
* The Participant takes part in the Fun Ride entirely at his/her own risk and the organizers, it’s members, employees, contractors or agents are not liable for any damage suffered by the participant or his/her dependants or pillion due to death or injury to property or person, sustained during or from whatsoever other cause arising during the Fun Ride. The Participant & Pillion hereby indemnify the organizers; it’s members, employees, contractors or agents against any claims:
* The Participants & pillions to have their own insurance – for their motorcycle, property & medical.
* Auto Alpina Technical Team will be on hand for participants, (N.B. This is an emergency/breakdown support service and not a chance to do your 10 000Km service!)
* The itinerary may change without notice.
* The Challenge is a fun event and not a race.
* A limited number of entries to 150 participants including sponsors are available so please book & pay early to avoid disappointment. You’ve got 2 months entries close 17h00 on Friday 28 February 2010.
* Please let us know if you are vegetarian. No time wasters.
* No vehicles at the event & camp site only motorcycles, (with exception of bona fide support vehicles) This is crucial for future use of the event site.
* Participants must carry all of their overnight and camping gear on their motorcycle. No “drop-off” or delivery service for this is allowed.
* A car & trailer parking will be provided at the Windmill Cottages @ R50-00 per car & trailer. No vehicles will be allowed at the event / camp site not even “drop-off”. Please advise and pre-pay with the number plate of the vehicle & trailer. A parking permit will be emailed to you prior to the event to be displayed in the windscreen at the parking site. No paid permit displayed = no parking spot available.
* The land we will be riding on is PRIVATE and participants will only have access to the route during the event.
* No participants to be at the camp site on Friday 12th & Saturday 13th between 10h00 & 15H00 (For security reasons) Sorry wives & girlfriends if you not going as a pillion don’t come you will not be able to stay at the site during the day.
* All participants to depart from campsite on Sunday by 11H00.
* To get to the event follow signs from Windmill Wine Shop situated 27km from Sabie and 17km from Hazyview on the R536.
* In case of emergency we would like participants to have a ‘riding buddy’s’ if possible. (Please complete name & cell number on the entry form)
* Right of admission reserved. The organisers reserve the right to ask any person or persons indulging in offensive, unsafe or unacceptable behaviour to leave the event. No refunds will be considered in such a case.
* Gatecrashers will be asked to LEAVE immediately. If you haven’t booked & paid don’t come - not even on the rides. It not fair to those who have paid in full.
* It is for the participant to make sure their entry and full payment have been received and confirmed. Only once you receive a participation number is your participation in the 2010 event confirmed.

Can any of you outmost intelligent people out there advise me how to extend this Sabie GS Challenge with the Train tour to the BMW Bike Festival within the domestic, fiscal and occupational restraints of keeping the wife, bank manager and boss happy while I bugger around on my loved Bike?

The ABBG is being replaced by the Bikefest. That will be taking place 19-22 March in Eastern Cape.
Pse refer to the rides Calender on the Website. Richard Hussey is the ride leader on that one.
