ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
Dear All
The ride to Rooiberg is ON and confirmed. The route will be about 182km from Atterbury Shell (07h00 for 07h30) to Rooiberg and about the same distance back. We will follow the old Warmbaths road and for those who have to, will fill up at Warmbaths. All bikes that cannot do 400km on a tankful have to fill up.
The route back to Pta will be either a backtrack or via Beestekraal Stasie and Brits - the latter being the favourite.
Swanie, the owner of Koekepan Pub is waiting and promised better service than last year. ( I cannot recall anybody complaining, though)
I believe most are experiencing serious and acute PMS this time - Parked Motorbike Syndrome! This road will allow barrels to be cleaned.
See you all Friday 9 Jan at the club meeting

TJ - just before the Carousel (coming back - north) a part of the road surface is being rebuilt - thus no tar surface. Did it last year coming back from Weesgerus - the detours surface was very bad.
Why not go out on the Molotto road and work your way parallel to the highway as far as possible and then work over to old Warmbaths road.

Been on that Carousel stretch a couple of days ago - was quite sleepy by then but pretty sure the tarmac is finished, think they were just to do the paint.

Re: ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
I know about the rebuild stretch as we rode it during the recce. The plan is to assess the road condition before the ride on 11 Jan and will then decide on the way to go.

Shangali. I believe there will also be a GS leg of the route, led by Andre Henrico.
But then, these GS guys tend to forget to get out of hibernation after the festive season. Maybe they are still nursing their bruises/ egos after some small mishaps in the sand? Shame, poor people... Be at the Club meeting on 9 Jan to get detail on the GS ride. I might just buy you a drink... for being an RT rider at some distant past, NOT FOR BEING A GS Rider!

Re: ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
The final recce will be done either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, giving the guys to do some work on the road this week.
Anyhow, there will be a detail at the briefing before we depart on Sunday and we will NOT do that stretch if it still exists.
I know some GSers complained about the road although the RT had no problem

Re: ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
As mentioned that part of the road was not LT or for that matter road bike friendly. Tend to agree with Jamie - lots of eish, and the necessary that goes with it.

Rooiberg trip
I refer to the various post's re the road works, All work has been completed, however from the end of the repaired strip road is very bumpy until you reach the Settlers turn off at 100km my RT and me s well as my wife almost went flying. Also note should anyone use the N1 repair works on the NI To Bella-Balla is in progress with up 30min waiting periods one way traffic only.

Not good. But yes that was our experience also. Can also recal encountering an unmarked speedhump in the middle of nowhere.

Re: ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
Can any one join the runs that you organize or do I have to become a member of the club. As soon as I am able to purchase a BMW then I will do so any way. I am keen to do the ride on Sunday.

Re: ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
most welcome to join, you don't have to be a member.
I think all that is required from non-members is to sign an indemnity before the ride......and to pay for the breakfast of all members
just joking of course
not sure yet if we will be able to join but if so, I might be on a Honda.......in solidarity with the Triumph

Re: ROOIBERG - 11 January Sunday ride
You are more than welcome to join the run and the club, for that matter. Ownership of a BMW is not a prerequisite. Meeting place is the Atterbury Shell, next to the Dross (Next to the Pietersburg highway) - starting time for this sunday will be summer time - 7 for 7:30.

Sounds like a very cheap breakfast run. Ok if I can make it I will see you there. Will not be able to come to the club meeting tonight. Have my wifes family from the UK here. Triuhonda rules.
