Firstly, I am not sure if someone specific is handling this normally, if so, please accept my apologies.
The 2008 Toy-Run will be held on 30 November 2008, at the EXPO CENTRE JOHANNESBURG.
Is anyone from the Club going ?

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
Thanks for the info!
Yes we were quite a number from the Club last year - personally a GREAT experience!
We started in Pretoria Rd in Silverton with hundreds of others - and meet hundreds along the way. Of course it's difficult to stay in a group, but once at the venue, we can meet up again and enjoy the day there.
Let's post some of last year's pics?!
. . . Go for it Mr Sharkie! (oh btw... Go Bulls!!)

Club departure at Shell

At the start in Silverton
Along the way
Almost there
Unfortunately I had to turn around for domestic chores, so no pics of the stacks of toys at the venue... but I know Club members who have . . *ping

Silverton gathering point
the late Buccaneer leading the bikes from the Silverton departure to the end venue
and thousands of bikes along the route
they came in all shapes and sizes
with a familiar face here and there

As we did last year and the years before - we just meet one-another at the start venue. Hopeless to try and stay together as a group once the ride has started.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
OK - departure from Midas, Silverton is 08:45.
Lets meet as a club at the Atterbury Shell at 07:30 for 07:45 departure.
Should get us to Silverton between 08:00/08:15 and still give time to watch the goings-on there.
Once we leave Silverton it will not be possible to stay together as a club - then your'e on your own!
Dani - please post on Club website.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
Sunday the 30th Nov the N1 will be closed between Lynnwood Road and N1-N4 interchange to remove a bridge. The morning starting at 05:00 the south bound will be affected. The afternoon the north bound will be affected.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
The closure of the highway to 1 lane only is going to play havoc on the south bound traffic from Silverton. Has any thought gone into joining the ride at some other point because I can envisage mayhem on the N1 south.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
We don’t necessarily have to stick to the highways. There are a number of alternative routes to take from Silverton to get to the N1 south of Lynwood Road… Is moving the departure point an option?

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
As only the south bound traffic will be affected in the morning we should still be able to take the N1 to Silverton - coming back from Silverton (South Bound) seems to be the problem - wonder if the organisers are aware of it.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
I heard this on the news this morning during traffic announcements for the morning. I rode down that stretch of freeway yesterday and they have done major ground removal around the bridge that is to be taken out.
Getting to Silverton is no problem, it is leaving Silverton that is going to be a problem as work to remove the bridge will begin at 05:00.

Will then probably then become a bikes only lane while the procession leaves Silverton - am sure Metro will direct the traffic accordingly. They usually escort at the start.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
My guess is that they will then go from Silverton towards Pretoria, left at CBC and past CSIR and get on the highway at Lynnwood road.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
If the N1between Lynnwood and N14 will be closed, what will the effect be on the bikes going to Jo'burg?. Will we have to come via Meiring Naude onto the highway after the closure?
Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
Going past CSIR on Meiring Naude is the best route to get onto the N1.

Re: 2008 - TOY RUN
just follow the thousands and thousands of other bikes
Quite a hair raising experience…..in more ways than one.
One feels a bit like royalty when waving to bystanders…….goose bump stuff and……
your mirrors and brakes are your only defense when the stream starts moving……simply bikes everywhere.
Definitely a highlight on the annual biking calendar – almost like the pilgrims visit to Mekka or for the Christians, a visit to Israel ………………………..
one has to do at least 1 toyrun in your life
One of the undisputed highlights in my biking career was in 2006 where about 100 kids had a banner on the highway saying:
THANK YOU TO ALL THE BIKERS FOR MAKING OUR CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
If you are still undecided whether to join or not………please make the effort……it’s worth it
