Quarry and Koppie - 08/11/2008
On Saturday (08/11/2008), five members of our club did some off-road/enduro riding at the Quarry and the koppie close to Mamelodi, on the plastic bikes.
The group consisted of myself (Honda CRF230), Pieter de Koker (Yammie WR250), Colin King (Yammie WR450), Bruno Gila and Peter (both Honda CRF250’s)
We started out playing around in the quarry, and then made our way to the koppie behind Mamelodi for two very tiring laps of the rocky terrain up and down this koppie.
We then went to the big rubbish dump and rode around there for a while. Then we returned to the Sambok Bar for some beer and a lekker steak and chips.
Thanks guys for a Saturday morning well spent with great riding buddies. Thank you to Bruno for all the nice pictures.
Pieter please post some of the pics if Bruno mailed the others to you. He only e-mailed me the ones that have me in them.
Me, gunning it up the first small koppie
Bruno, myself and Pieter at the top
Me, on the way down
The group on the way down the very rocky and difficult path
Again, me on the path down on lap #2
Colin, myself and Peter waiting for Pieter, as he went up the mountain AGAIN!!
Me, going up the side of the rubbish-dump, flat taps in 2nd gear !

Ja looks like great fun. Pretty sure it tunes the necessary GS skills pretty well too.
A friend of mine (Yamah WR 250) had a small crash in that region the other day, went over his bars and broke both wrists
But I guess that's part of the game! Could have been worse...

Here are some more photos of our Saturday ride:
Pieter in the Quarry
Pieter and Bruno at the top
Pieter on his way down
And back up and back down again while we waited a bit
Making his way up the dump – see how small me and Peter look at the bottom!!!
On the way down the really steep part of the dump. This part is really very scary, Pieter, Colin and I have done this decent before. Pieter and Stefan (Scary) has been UP there before. I tried going up it last time but I was “gloriously unsuccessful”.

This must have bee Grrrrrreat fun !!!!! Thank you very much for sharing.
I think my age will count against me, if I try something like that at this stage. Looks very tricky & technical.
