Re: All the train tour info...
Hi Leroy
I removed both rear footplates before loading the bike into the carriage. I parked the front wheel hard up on to the end of the carriage & parking it on its side stand. I then lashed the front wheel to the front railings. Where I had removed the foot plates I put a tie-down through each side & around the sub-frame and pulled that through slightly forward to restrain the bike from possibly moving backwards. I personnally do not believe in putting the bike into gear as even a slight movement/ jarring can damage the gears if it happens regularly and trust me on the train journey this is a common occurrence. Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: All the train tour info...
Thanks for the advice - i thought about leaving it in gear. Will definitely not do it now and tie the bike down as you have succesfully done as it obviously worked. Regards.

Ditto here - good advice - would also have left it in gear. Think I will take an extra two tiedowns with just to make sure...

Re: All the train tour info...
Have just received a mail from the organisers - the loading ramp is at least built for the larger heavier bikes such as the Beemers (0.9m wide). Also the bikes gas tanks should be as empty as possible when loading. There is a filling station 2 kms from where we offload.

Re: All the train tour info...
Strange that you are being asked to have near empty fuel tanks when loading. No mention of this was made when I booked / paid for the bike at Cape Town station! Thank goodness because to drain the LT tank is not an easy job.

Re: All the train tour info...
There is now ways i am going to drain the tank - will ensure that it is relatively empty - below half that is. We still have to ride there on the saturday morning. And the same applies to coming back.

Re: All the train tour info...
Believe so - Dave posted the link on the first page of this thread. The full amount must be paid by tomorrow, by those who have booked - if not the reservation is cancelled automatically - what i am trying to say - if the tour is full now - there might be a cancellation or 2 by friday - check on the page or send a mail to lizelle@jbtours.co.za. The tour code is MB4.

Seems to be - we had two new people book today, so maybe they not yet full. Only take 30 bikes max - so max is 60 people if all bikes have pillion.
Don't think there will be 60 people though because our group has 5 bikes with no pillions.
So far we (club)are 9 people paid up and 4 people still to pay. So, 8 bikes confirmed with 4 bikes to confirm - and maybe you as well??

Re: All the train tour info...
The more the merrier. You now have your dream bike - include it in this dream ride. You still have enough time to rack up sufficient km's to have the 1000km service done before the trip, especially if you include Millies in your ride planning.

A website you may wish to visit before your train trip:

Just so that when you secure your bike, you don't do it a damage...!

Excellent - time is ticking. As said earlier in the Millies ride - the payment part has been done - now waiting for the fun part to start. Think the last time i was on a train must be the best part of 20 years ago.
