Sunday GS practice Report
Thanks to Bruno, Uwe, Pauli, Adriaan and everyone!
I do not see myself as a complete novice, neither am I an experienced rider. Sunday's ride gave me quite a bit of confidence - the gravel roads ridden was tricky at some places. Some unexpected sand, holes etc. kept my eyes open and forced me to relax on the bike. The 20km outride at Rhino park was very lekker, so sorry I could not quite make the last mud hole obstacle.
My body is quite sore today, I know I will have to do quite a bit of exercise before the Challenge, seeing as I will do the Orange route.

Re: Sunday GS practice Report
Thanks to ALL the people and bikes that came along on the BIGGEST GS-ride, EVER !!!
Over 30 bikes tackled the lekker dirt roads around Bronkhorstspruit and back to Rhino Park.
There were only one "big" incident involving a R1200GS Adv, a lekker bump in the road, some soft sand on the other side of the bump and a couple of "gat-oor-kop" tumbles, oh and a bit too much speed. But a search-party was sent out to find the mirrors, but with no success. When Adriaan (sweeping) came past the scene, he was presented with two smashed mirrors, found in the bushes by the local kids.
At Rhino park we went on the Family out-ride route, in two groups, a hard and fast one, lead by Anthony Page, and a slower, easier one, lead by Bruno Gila. The "Anthony-group" ended the route with a big mud-pool to try and get through. The HP2 and the X-Challenge had no problem, but then the Big Boxers, had their turn. This was quite funny!! I would not mention the name of a member, who went looking for a "chicken-route" through this hole
Well, in the end we all made it through, with a little help on some of the big bikes.
We had a very nice lunch and a few drinks at the Sambok-Bar on the way back home.
I will post some pics tomorrow.

Re: Sunday GS practice Report
Good to hear that there was such a big turnout for the GS ride - must be a record for sure.

Kudos to the leaders. I am sure that more such riding will help the nerves, but I do feel that tyres play a major part in off-road situations - especially the soft sand.
I had a very minor lay-down in soft sand on the route and that made me nervous for a while thereafter, but I got over it.
Now, if I only had money for two sets of rims, one set with Tourances and one with Anakees...!??

Re: Sunday GS practice Report
Why tourances and not TKC's? At the price of the rims (I heard about R12000 per rim), the tires must be REALLY different to make it worthwhile.

Re: Sunday GS practice Report
Some pics,
All the photo's were taken at just two places, as we only stopped twice !!!! (apart from the accident scene).
I am not sure if anybody took pics at the "mud-hole". If someone did, please post them. If any other members took some pictures, please post them too.
Thanks

Re: Sunday GS practice Report
Hi all,
The route on Sunday was baie lekker! My Adventure needs some TLC after my small wipe, and I sit at home with torn ligaments, but still in good spirit.
I just want to thank everyone that helped me after the fall, and for the broken mirrors that I got back, I will put them in my bar.
Cheers,
Willem.

What I meant to say was:
one set of rims with road tyres - Tourances / Anakees
one set of rims with dirt tyres - TKC's
Considering that the front would have to have a set of disks fitted to each rim, add R4k+ on top of the rims...!
