Re: Tell us who you are?
I have tried all the models (except the LT funny enough) and like most of them. They are all designed for a specific purpose. I do lots of long distance and the RT is the bike for me. I am sure the LT will be even more comfy but the RT is in my opinion more of an all-rounder because the panniers can be removed. As far as a GS is concerned, my vote will go to the 800GS. I went down Die Hel with a 650GS and liked the lightness of the bike. On the open road however it was just a bit slow for me. I think the 800GS will be the ideal combination of nimbleness, enough speed and light enough to throw around. If I could afford it I will have them all. But, if I have to buy a maaitjie for my RT, it is likely to be a S1000RR rather than a GSHenk wrote:Ahhhhhh....... another convert. Now we must start working on Andre and LeRoy

Re: Tell us who you are?
Tend to agree with Andre - although i will always have a soft spot for the R1100S/R1200S as that was my first Beemer and was stolen unfortunately. Only drawback is the small tank - 17L inlcuding the 4L reserve.

Still gets around 250km - 300km when travelling in traffic and lane splitting.
Have found that speeds of more than 200 greatly reduce the distance on a tank.

Re: Tell us who you are?
It depends on the road, the situation and the conditions. The RT rev limiter unfortunately kicks in at 240 kphHenk wrote:Andre----- how fast do you go on the open road??? oops thisis an open forum-- lets stick to 120km/h

Re: Tell us who you are?
Of course all these speeds are on the track - we are all very law abiding citizens - reason why we ride beemers. With regars to the distance Dave gets - then the R1200S' gas mileage must be better than the R1100S i had. Made roughly 200km's in town traffic.

Re: Tell us who you are?
200 km on a tank in traffic??? Then I must be lucky I get about 380 to 420 km on my 16 litres.. Then again traffic in delmas is between 7h00 and 7h01. Then I am long time at work.

Re: Tell us who you are?
I get up to 300 kays on my R1100S if I ride sensibly, but if I gun at 180 the reserve light comes on at about 190 kays.LeRoy Olivier wrote:With regars to the distance Dave gets - then the R1200S' gas mileage must be better than the R1100S i had. Made roughly 200km's in town traffic.

Unfortunaterly did not have the bike long enough to get the true gas mileage tendencies before the afirmative shoppers thought it best to relieve me of my pride and joy.

Re: Tell us who you are?
Hi Philippe's the name
I've been riding bikes from about the same time I started walking.
1983-85 started more serious with PRO-AM MX on a Yamaha YZ80
1986-89 on a Suzuki RM125
When working in Namibia 1998 I came across a Yamaha Dakar Tenere that I bought from a German Tourist. This was the real beginning of Dual Sport for me. Three years ago I bought my "Silver Dream Machine" R1150GS ADV which has never let me down. I commute with my GS and enjoy the off-roading seen... I also on the look out for a 650 X-Challege to do some more riding with my 8 year old son...
