I used to be a pillion for a long time. I was also nervous in the beginning but the more time you spend with your partner, the better it gets. The only way to earn your pillions trust is to ride together. I must agree that you should keep the trips short at first because there is the bike-fit issue. As Sharkie suggested, bring her to the monthly gatherings and I am sure after she met some of the people, it might inspire her to go with you. The company on the club rides is great and part of the whole experience. Don’t give up yet!

Re: Get my Fiance to ride with me
Hi Bear
You have been given a lot of good advise by others but here's my 2 cents worth.
1. If you can, choose a ride out of town on quiet roads that you know well and where this is little traffic so that you can concentrate on the ride.
2. Start off with relatively short rides stopping off at some place on the way for coffee or colddrink for her to relax, have a smoke etc, should she feel nervous
2. Be completely comfortable with the controls and handling of your bike before you take her with you i.e. you should be able to pull away and stop smoothly, take smooth lines into and out of corners - this will give her confidence in your ability to control the bike.
3. There are no points to be gained by trying to "show-off' on the bike, after all, you want her to enjoy herself so that she comes with you on other rides in the future. I have seen it too often when guys get their bikes it is a macho thing to scare their pillions to death and then wonder why she never wnats to ride with them again.
4. Introduce her to other pillion riders at club meetings - especailly to the enthusiastic pillion riders. Unfortunately, you will always find someone with a horror story to tell - so be warned!
I have been riding with my wife, Carol since 1974, and more often than not it is her that insists that we take-off somewhere on the bike. We have one world, two wheels and we enjoy riding it together.
Good luck and I hope you succeed in getting her to ride with you as there is so much pleasure in sharing the biking experience.

Re: Get my Fiance to ride with me
Hi Bear
Another IMO important point: ensure that your fiance has good quality warm gear, jacket, trousers and boots suitable for bike riding and especially a correctly fitting helmet. Nothing worse that being cold and having a helmet that buffets while riding.

Re: Get my Fiance to ride with me
Don’t really know if it would be appropriate to say “glad to hear”……..actually I think it is somewhat sad.
Let’s just say……problem solved.
advice if I may……..biker chicks are amazing……start hunting again immediately ........and this time be more streetwise, make sure she is allready a rider/pillion

Re: Get my Fiance to ride with me
Pity - she obviously dont know what she is missing out on. We have been biking together now since 2004 - have only been married 12 years (as an aside) - would have loved to be able to have been biking together for as long as Chris (2UP4ADV) have.

Agree with you LeRoy. There is very few things better than riding a bike. I am sorry it took me so long to buy one. Will make sure the kids get theirs on the due times. At the moment only a peewee at Oupa se plaas

Re: Get my Fiance to ride with me
There may also be a case that some people just don't enjoy biking (weird, but possibly true).
When I bought the S, I took both my nieces for a trip down the road and back, maybe 10 kays. The one has subsequently joined me for a brekkie or two, she actually wants to go more often, but I don't have spare gear for her, so this doesn't happen often. The other has never been on (any) bike again.
So same bike, same rider, same route, same conditions, different results ...

Re: Get my Fiance to ride with me
Sorry to hear about your split from your fiance but I suppose it is better for it to have happened now than at some later stage. What ever caused the split I certainly hope it was not because of biking - that would be a shame.
