Track day with a difference
No, I did not take on the gravel tracks to Loskop nor did we join the roadies to Stonehaven
We went TO THE TRACK today.
Awesome, absolutely bloody awesome!!!
Only a handful of riders turned up and we basically had the track all to ourselves to ride when and as much as we like :cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:
..........at any given time no more than 5/6 riders on the track............THAT WAS FANTABULOUS!!!!!
I was somewhat nervous beforehand (very unlike me before a track day) as.........
- the bike is brand new;
- I have to "nurse" my (new) rear tyre for the upcoming trip otherwise i might not make it on one tyre; and
- yes, the upcoming trip - I need my bike to be in one piece
but in the end, what a day it turned out to be........
I was super impressed by the Mermaid’s efforts on her maiden track day
this lady is getting better and better "by the ride". WELL DONE GIRL, I'M MIGHTY PROUD OF YOU!!!
Now, I've been to a fair few track days on a variety of bikes and I know "'n nuwe besem is veronderstel om skoon te vee" but boy, this bike is something special
It was never designed to be a track tool and the technical Zwartkops is not friendly to a heavy, long wheel base, bike.
but.....
it came and it concurred……..with flying colours. Where I had to work fairly hard on the previous 3 K’s to get my knee down on the track tar, the ESA II in combination with the ‘’55 profile rear made it almost easy and natural with the K1300S
WHATABIKE!
the Mermaid in full flight
we invited F1Boy with to take some pics while we are on the track. When only 10 or so riders turned up, the BMW Rider Acadamy allowed him to join although the intension was for BMW clients only.............he did wear his BMW pants though
Needless to say he, had a blast and "die klein helsem het nie 'n enkele aksie foto geneem nie" he simply never came off the track
I did roughly 150km around the track and to say I have enjoyed every one of them, would be an understatement
for fear of boring you, I'll end off by this picture of the beast.........aggressive, super handler and very fast

Re: Track day with a difference
haha the only reason why i stopped was because my fuel light came on.
this was my first time ever on a track and what a perfect day around 15 bikes and an open sesson....THIS WAS HEAVEN. BMW HEAVEN (on a SUZUKI)
A HUGE thank you to BMW For allowing me to ride, it was awesome.
funny pic though, it felt like my knee was alot further out than that but atleast my tires look abit more used now.
THANX EVERYONE !!!!!

Re: Track day with a difference
I am with Robert, should have given the road trip a skip and come to the track. Although not the natural habitat of the GS with DS tires but me thinks it would have been worth it none the less.
Cool pics

Re: Track day with a difference
Jip, I was there as well. First time on track. Scary stuff on what I found out later was a slightly over inflated set of duel purpose tires. Apparently pressure a little lower than for normal road riding is best. The scariest bit was going straight until you hit the yellow cross on the track. I have to admit that I chickened out early and took most of the turns before the cross. Maybe next time?
Do you have other pics as well?

Re: Track day with a difference
Nice photos. You get to see all the dirt under the engine and all the bits that are difficult to get to. Now all you have to do is turn the bike upside down to clean them.

Ja, I live on a smallholding and are doing some dirt road come rain or shine. If you think I looked stressed out going around the track, you should see me after a thunderstorm on a slightly clay-ish wet road...
But I am digressing ...
