LipIce
(maybe I need a better helmet?)
Second thoughts, that was a female answer!
Those extra chainlinks, chain lube, Spanjaard etc, are a given I guess?

Just don't fancy walking.
Now if the heading read: 'I would not go on a long bike trip without my...' it would differentiate it from car trips, 4x4 trips etc....

Yes - No respect for age and old timers. Agree with Dani - LipIce is a must as the sun burns your lips through the visor. The following would be on my list.
Pint of Oil,
Puncture Kit,
Small compressor,
Small bottle of water,
Oil funnel,
Elsabe's pillow.

Re: I would not go on a long trip without my.... (complete this sentence)
Chris's comment iro his wife - obvious - wont take Elsabe's pillow without Elsabe - will be pointless. She has a bit of a neck problem - hence the orthopedic pillow. I roll it up, fold it double and fit it into a specific place when packing - once we reach our destination we leave it laying about and it pops up again - hence it is commonly known as "Lazarus".
As Chris said in a previous post - if your pillion is comfortable, the ride will be a pleasure. The reference to the oil - suppose it would be better suited to a hardley driveable - but we mostly travel alone with no backcup. Have never needed it - but good to know it is there - same principle applies to the pump and puncture kit.
Cannot take Elsabe into the boonies - tar of course - and not have all support with us one might initially need. Nevertheless - this an interesting thread.

Re: I would not go on a long trip without my.... (complete this sentence)
We have had a few replies here - you know what is glaringly absent? And I will attempt a pseudo-psychological analysis of it as well....
A Camera!!
The pseudo-psychological analysis:
As BMW riders, we are a lot more interested in experiencing an event than talking about it and showing other people about it.

But is that not what they drink in any case - or would it rather be anti-freeze so that they can wear those "Help-my-sterk-lyk" sleeveless shirts.
