GS weekend trip! interested?
I have received a number of requests for more GS 'away' trips this year - specifically for weekend away types of trips that will suit people running low on leave.
Until I have had the opportunity to formally make a request to add to the rides calender, I'm thinking of doing a quick & dirty towards Nylstroom (Modimole or something!)
I'm lookin at the weekend of 30 April - 1 May 2010. The provisional plan is to stay at Serendipity Trails. Accommodation is around R120-R180 per person, with another R150 to ride their Dual Sport route. So if we leave early Saturday morning, unpack there and do their trail, we can have a lekker social evening, and on Sunday morning take the long way back around some nice gravel roads in the area.
They also have tracks (even advanced) for dirtbikes and quads.
Accommodation is in some type of chalet & tented camp. Can fit 8 + 3 (not sharing the double beds). There is also place to pitch ypur tent if you like that type of thing. It's self catering and you bring your own bedding.
Can I just check who will be interested to join? I'll post more details once we have a group!

Good idea Marnus. I heard the terrain is very scenic and technical. Just as I like it

Bring Her with you !!!!!!
I'll love to do this, but not in this weekend. Probably going to Namibia from April, 24th to May, 2nd.
But the place chosen is the best!

Re: GS weekend trip! interested?
Wow! Great to see the interest. I think we must do this type of thing more often!
Seeing that some key players can't make it, I feel that I have to consider an alternative date. I'll contact them to check availability and let you know!

Re: GS weekend trip! interested?
Ok... I have spoken with them again seeing that the 1 May weekend is a bit tough for some.
I have two alternative dates:
Weekend of 15 May
Weekend of 22 May
Then there are some other options we can consider.
Sleepover only the Saturday evening:
* Treehouse (R180 per person)
* Tent camp (R150 per person)
* Camp spot for your own tent (R120 per person)
Alternatively you can sleep over the Friday & Saturday evening:
* Treehouse (R240 for both nights)
* Tented camp (R200 for both nights)
* Camp spot for your own tent (R160 for both nights)
These prices exclude the R150 per bike for riding and obviously your food and drinks.
Can I please ask that you indicate:
1) 15 May or 22 May
2) 1 night or 2 nights
Please post your feedback before close of business tomorrow, so I can confirm the booking!
PS! There are only 11 beds, so the first 11 get to sleep on something soft!!! If you snooze, you'll have to snooze on the ground in your tent
Thanks!
And just to get you in the mood:

Re: GS weekend trip! interested?
Sounds great! I should be up to off-road riding well before then...
*I'm nursing a "soft tissue" rib injury from a fall at Country Trax Introductory Off-road course on Saturday.
I don't think 1200GS's like riding in 4,5m diameter full-lock circles!

Re: GS weekend trip! interested?
Awesome! At Serendipity Trails you can then actually apply the 4.5m circles that you've learned. You would be surprised to find how much of that you have to use now that you know it
You still need to pick a date & number of nights though...

Re: GS weekend trip! interested?
I can only go on the weekend of 22nd May (I have other obligations on 15th.)
One or two nights would suit me in the tented camp.
I can get away early enough on Friday 21st to make it there before sunset.

I can make it on the 22nd of May. Would prefer only one night but if the majority goes for two it wouldnt be a problem as long as we start not before 1400h on Friday.

Re: GS weekend trip! interested?
Please remember that fitness will be key for this weekend. I have seen many good skilled riders that just lose their skills after an hour of riding this type of terrain due to fatigue.
I would suggest that anybody going on this start hitting a gym, otherwise you will make it unpleasant for yourself and the group. (Believe there is nothing more annoying than being the weakest link or having to baby sit an unfit rider). Cycling and spinning classes is also a very good way to become fit.

Martin and I would have loved to join, but we already have other bookings for both those weekends - will do Countrytrax the weekend of the 20th. Will definitely join in next time! Great idea Marnus.
