Pontdrift: Anyone interested to go with?
I am planning to go to Pontdrift on Saterday 5 September and come back the same day and sleep in my own bed. This is a iron butt kind off run. The shortest route and back will be 925 Km. Taking a different route back will be 1031 Km.
Is there anybody that is interested to do the trip with me? If not I am going in any case.
This is the last point that I need for my 4 corners.

Excuse my ignorance but where is Pontdrift. Sounds like an interesting but tough ride.

Thanks found it on Google a few seconds ago. Iron butt stuff a trip like that in one day. Would be possible on the new Tiger I have but not my old Sprint.

Re: Pontdrift: Anyone interested to go with?
Personally speaking - why would one want to ride all the way up to Pontdrift and not sleep over for at least 2 nights at Balerno?????

Because there is only this one window of opportunity this year and because Pontdrift is on our doorstep if you have the right bike.

Anything with 2 wheels and a fuel propelled engine with which you are prepared to ride and you may prefer to do more than a 1000 Km in one day. It may be uncomfortable like hell as long as you are prepared to ride it. Also something on 2 wheels with a engine that you call your pride and joy. It may also be a scooter. Right bike is what is right for you, others may not like it at all, but its right for you and that is the important thing and the only thing that count.

Re: Pontdrift: Anyone interested to go with?
My tips for the trip:
1) Be on the road as early as you can see the road without using headlights.
2) Breakfast near Polokwane after two hours of riding.
3) Do Pontrif before you have lunch.
4) Lunch well and ride back easy
ENJOY...!

Often these quick long distance rides are very enjoyable on your own or with a riding partner who is not phased by longer 'rides' between stops.
You will however find you will have ample time to stop and rest if you leave early as Richard suggested.
Did a similar distance on New Years day this year on my roundabout ride to Clarens - had ample time to get back in daylight even with breakfast and lunch stops.

Re: Pontdrift: Anyone interested to go with?
Thanx for all the tips Richard and Dave. I have done a few trips of more than and 1000 Km with this red Camel. Longest was me, Bruno and Shaun back from the Buffalo rally earlier this year it was 1306 Km. When I am riding on my own I stop the minimum only petrol and pic of nice places.

Re: Pontdrift: Anyone interested to go with?
.....then in all probability you have found the right bike.....for you
Sure, some bikes are more appropriate for certain applications but there is no such thing as the right bike per se. The “right bike” is solely determined by the rider’s needs and expectations and that includes a pillion where applicable.
For some no single bike is able to answer all the requirements hence the need for 2 or more bikes sometimes

Re: Pontdrift: Anyone interested to go with?
Missing the point here - every bike is the right bike - dependant on the owners/riders needs and requirements. Balerno is relatively speaking on our doorstep - we thoroughly enjoyed the sleepover there - point i tried to make. Nevertheless - enjoy the ride.

Kom nou eers agter wat jy bedoel! Ek was laas daar toe dit nog Makhado was, nie geweet van die reversal nie. Sulke goed pla my maar min, daar is belangriker battles om te wen.
