Bafana forced to move camp
2010-02-21 15:54
Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana have been forced to move their training camp for June's World Cup finals to the Sandown High School. Johannesburg.
The move was confirmed on Sunday by the new South African Football Association CEO Leslie Sedibe who labelled it as "embarrassing."
Bafana head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira was planning to use the Esselen Park School of Excellence when he begins work at home in May with Bafana. However, the complex is badly run down and it would take about R16m to renovate.
The previous SAFA administration who were voted out of office last November were blamed for the failure to secure Esselen Park and upgrade it in time. Sedibe slammed the previous SAFA administration. The new SAFA boss was angry when he found out that the previous SAFA officials had not signed a contract or made arrangements to upgrade Esselen Park.
Even if the R16m needed to renovate the venue was secured now the upgrades could not be made in time before the squad begins training at home in May ahead of Bafana's opening World Cup match against Mexico at Soccer City on June 11.
Said Sedibe: "We knew in May 2004 that we would host the 2010 World Cup. Therefore it was expected that SAFA would secure the best available training camp as we are playing at home. But we did not and now we are asking why? and what went wrong.
"What we have found out is that nothing was done (by the previous SAFA administration) to secure Esselen Park as our training base and frankly it is a big embarrassment to us as World Cup hosts that we have to settle for second best. Here we are the host nation being the last team (of the 32 in the World Cup) to secure a training base for our team."
Sedibe said Parreria had inspected the new facilities on Sunday. Bafana will be based at the Sandton Southern Sun hotel.
Said Sedibe: " I have just come from a visit today (Sunday) to the Sandown High School with the head coach (Parreira) and he is happy with the new facilities. So it is all systems go. But all this could have been avoided. "
Parreira will name his squad to play Namibia in Durban on March 3 on Thursday. After playing Namibia in that friendly Parreira will take a squad of local based Bafana players for a three week training camp to Brazil.
.....NICE TO BLAME THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION!!

I'm more worried about the Super14 final. Apparently it falls inside the window period where FIFA says no other sport allowed. I wouldn't want to see the Bulls play a "home game" final in Auz / NZ!

Tend to agree with Marnus on the points to made. For how many years have SAFFA had time to get their house in order - roughly 100 days left and they are still F-----ting around.
One wonders if one should bother getting tickets seeing as we will be the 1ste host nation not even getting out of the starting blocks. What gets me the most 15 years ago we were the world champs in soccer, but from there it was a steady downhill to nearly last on the ratings list.
When will our soccer bosses wake up and get the playing plan together - when we are last?????

I say - @#$% FIFA. If there is no game at the stadium and hence in the town do not see why not. After all, the people wanting to watch the soccer will have their tickets to the game so it won't affect match attendance nor their viewership ratings.
Just have it at a different time.
Why should international rugby do what soccer wants. Do they accommodate rugby??

Correction - were were never close to soccer world champions and have never got past the first round in the world cup (not since our 'new democracy' anyhow!
We won the CAF cup and we only qualified because it was held in SA and the host country has to be in the tournament!

Re: SWC 2010 - and now it starts.....
Stand corrected - thought we won the WC in the early 1990's just about before or after the 1ste elections. With regards to the rest of your sentiments - fully agree with you.
Heard Vuyo on Good Morning SA the other morning referring to the Bafana Soccer Stars - personally - they dont deserve that tittle as they have for the last 15 years done nothing to warrant it.
When will our so-called stars again become soccer players and start performing - maybe their pay plan - being more important than the play plan - be of such a nature that they only be paid per goal scored.

They usually go on strike for more money just before a major tournament and often the instigator is McCarthy. This because they know that they won't get too far.
Lets wait and see what happens!

Then it is time SAFFA lays down the rules and starts managing these children. How much more nonsence must be taken from these non-performing clowns before management will allow the up and coming young players to take these prima-dona's places and we can again see some performance

In you dreams could we win the World Cup. It was the Africa Cup of Nations that we won when we had real stars playing... before they were removed for the sake of BE. I would rather not mention the name of the then Captain, I may be classified as a racist.
Why do they strike, Toitoi...? Because the players don't want to loose their positions in the squad. Typical of many in recent SA when they are removed from their posts.

Personally - dont think this is the time, place or forum to post this. I am not a prude - on the contrary - but this does not fit here. The previous posts with the other ladies in are better suited?????????????

Sjoe nou is ek regtig deurmekaar.
Re: SWC 2010 - and now it starts.....
Tj... epos vir ons die foto, toe, asseblief. Ek wil 'n onafhanklike studie doen
