VIC FALLS 2010: 24 April - 2 May 2010 S's & GS's
It has been discussed informally amongst members and alike to do a Vic Falls trip next year. This is in the holidays window where we for the last two years did the Canopy tours to Tsitsikamma.
Although not yet a formal club ride we will put it to the vote at our 2010 planning meeting that will take place on 20 Nov 2009. This will provide us with back-up support, etc.
The idea is to combine the S's and GS's as there is enough playground for all en route.
The route and program:
24 April: Leave Atterbury Shell and sleep at Marang Hotel, Francistown - 641km
25 April: Travel to Kasane and sleep over at Chobe Lodge - 501km S's do the tar thing and GS's the hunter's road
26 April: Do the Chobe River cruise and some tiger fishing, relax and drink
27 April: Travel to Zambia via Kazungula Ferry and sleep over at Maramba River Lodge. - 93km
Right next to the falls
28 April: Still at the lodge for sight seeing, bunji, kuier, flying, and whatever
29 April: Travel via Vic Falls border to Vic Falls Town and sleep over - 9km Have to allow good time for border crossing
30 April: Travel to Bulawayo and sleep over - 439km
1 May: Travel to Messina and sleep over - 340km Have to allow good time for border crossing
2 May: Travel to home - 463km
Tuesday, 27 April 2010 is a public holiday
Anybody interested??

Me and Dorothy are in!
Tip for people who may struggle with leave - tell everyone at work that you will stay at work between all the other long weekends during March/April and they can take leave then - 8 days leave would give 17 days off.

We are presently finalising accom bookings and will report shortly on a prelim budget.
Reports are that Zimbabwe is OK for tourists nowadays and the road from Vic Falls to Beitbrug is fine with ample fuel supply.

Hi All
Apologies for the belated reply.
Presently finalising accom in Livingstone and Messina. Chobe is confirmed.
Still to do Francistown and Bulawayo. Anybody have some contacts in Bulawayo? Does the town still stand?
Budget?? Well, let's see...
The ride will be approx 2500km @ 6L/100km = R1200
Accom, living, etc per day per person R700 = R5000
Others (excl windmill, giraffe, bungy, etc) = R2000
This looks like the worst case scenario

Right you are. Here is the latest:
April 24 - 07h30 for 08h00 – Atterbury Shell
Depart for Francistown via the N11
Francistown Accommodation:
Tati River Lodge res@trl.co.bw +267 2406000 Contact: Bosele Kukumara
http://www.namibweb.com/tatiriverlodge.htm
April 25 – 08h30
Depart for Kasane
Stay two nights at
Chobe Marina Lodge res1@chobemarinalodge.com +2676252222 Contact: Onti
http://www.roamingafrica.com/single_botswana/chobe-marina-lodge.asp
The second day we will be spending most of the day on the Chobe river, by boat enjoying drinks and very good company, ourselves.
April 27 – 08h30
Depart for Livingstone. Stand in the line for the Kazungula ferry to take us over the mighty Zambesi
We stay over at a backpacker lodge (quite lani I’d say)
Jollyboys, Livingstone jollybs@zamnet.zmhttp://www.backpackzambia.com/camp.php
April 28 – 08h30
Depart via the rail/road bridge to Vic Falls in Zimbabwe where we will stay over two nights. There is just toooo much to do for one day.
Lorrie's B&B lorrie@mweb.co.zw +2631342139
http://www.namibweb.com/lorriesvicfalls.htm
April 30 – 08h30
Depart for Bulawayo for a one night stop-over
(Sorry, this one is not finalized yet. I must still find out if Bulawayo still exists. I believe the Holiday Inn is about the best bet, unless we want to pay in excess of R1000pp at other fancy lodges in the area.)
May 1 – 08h30
Depart for Beitbrug and stay over at
Munati Lodge Estelle Smith [rolhanie@limpopo.co.za] 083 4552189
http://www.munatilodge.com/
May 2 _ 09h00
Depart for home.
I suggest you start now
- checking that passport
- vehicle border cross pass (if under finance)
- malaria pills prescription
- booking at the above venues. These venues are very popular holiday resorts and do fill up early in the year. Do not be caught with your pants down…
In all bookings refer to the Pretoria BMW Club block booking - they will be expecting your call
It is not possible for me to calculate a budget for this trip as the type of accommodation is varying from affordable to exclusive. You decide what you want
I believe this trip can substitute your annual holiday by far – so just start doing your stuff guys… and gals!!!
We would not want the group to be larger than 30 souls and 19 have already shown commitment.
Call me for more questions.

What are the accommodation charges at each of these venues or are we at the mercy of the booking clerk at the time of making our bookings?

This type of layout is all good and well and encompasses all the information one would want to see - however the standard trip planning document as designed by Brian Cannoo just gives one a better overview of the trip planning. Can trip planning not again be done on it?????
