Why is the 1st service not free ????
I bitch about this everytime I buy a new BMW Motorcycle.
I have just spent R163K on a New 1200GS Adventure.
1000kms later, I need to pay R1200 for it to be serviced !!!
Why is this not included in the sale and then when you ride your brand new bike in for its 1st service - its FREE !!
But instead you get a bill for R1200 for labour, oil filter, oil, and engine cleaner.
This pisses me of to extremes !
No-one has ever been able to convince me that this is the way to go.
Lauchlan Harris could not answer this one either

Yes - you indeed have a valid point - when buying a new car the 1ste service is free - spending amounts we spend on Beemers one would expect the 1 st service to at least be free. Second question - why do BMW not sell motorplans on their bikes ?????

My 2 cents, if they include free services, motor plan etc. tThe value of the transaction would be to excessive, which will have an impact on bike sales

FIRST FREE SERVICE?
"There is no free lunch." Milton Friedman 1912-2006
There is NO free service either. Remember, the manufacturer gets the purchase price - the dealer gets the service cost directly. Some manufacturers merely increase the purchase price to include the so-called 'free' service. That way, the buyer just ends up paying the cost of the 'free' service plus finance charges over 60 payments...
Some years back, a mate of mine negotiated a new car purchase, excluding all Service Plans, extras, etc. etc.
Why?
Maintenance costs (on company cars) are tax deductible as and when they are incurred. So when anything went wrong, he had it fixed/adjusted/replaced, etc and paid for half - SARS effectively paid the other half. He also had all 'extras' fitted after registration.
That way, the capital purchase price of the vehicle - on which his fringe benefit tax for private use was calculated - would be reduced to a minimum. As I remember he reduced the purchase price by almost 40%.
Sometimes, you don't want things included in the purchase price - for 'free'...

Instead of a free 1st service, I would rather that the dealer gives free training with the purchase of a new bike!

Re: Why is the 1st service not free ????
This might be regarded as a highjack - Admin to decide...
...but what happened with Sharon's suggestion of late last year to offer free club membership to each new-bike owner? I just wonder if Committee have ever followed up on this noble gesture?

Re: Why is the 1st service not free ????
I don't think the free first service will be an issue for Marnus in the near future!

Re: Why is the 1st service not free ????
Yes Dave, SWAMBO is still upset about my last "incident". She believes it has something to do with MY riding ability. The fact that there was a huge hole where it should not have been is really immaterial to her. So being the judge, jury, executioner and caretaker, I'm having to maintain a low profile.
So with a severe cold front having moved in over my aspirations, a free first service is quite irrelevant, because one actually needs a bike to get that done in the first place
Can I ask your help? How about I bring a nice Hallmark Card to the next club meeting and you can all write her some motivational messages!?!

...and if you get another bike soon you could also end up on hospital, surgical ward - compliments of SWAMBO!!
If she now doubts your riding ability why not do Jan's refresher course?? Remember he offers a discounted rate for those that have completed the course. That will then 'up' your ability and should make SWAMBO happy.
......but then obviously to do the refresher you will need to buy a bike to do it on.........

HAHAHAHA Dave... she believes NO amount of training can overcome my genetic disadvantages!
But she knows it makes me happy - whether I can or cannot. So I'm sure she'll come around at some point... Until then I'm shopping around: 1st for the card that you will put your messages in, and then for a... uhm... a something-out-of-the-ordinary bike
