BMW Super Bike
Hi all, got this off the Mottorrad site...
BMW Motorrad have unveiled a prototype of their Superbike World Championship future contender - the S 1000 RR.
The manufacturer's objective is to offer the customer a high-performance motorcycle with absolutely outstanding qualities and features on both the road and race track in terms of rideability, performance, and ergonomics.
In the early project phase BMW checked out various engine concepts but decided in favour of a four-cylinder, with the straight-four offering the best qualities to meet the power, performance, weight, and package requirements BMW wanted.
"In compliance with the rules of the Series, the road-going production version will be available to customers in 2009 and BMW have said they will build 1000 production models by the end of next year."

Re: BMW Super Bike
Unfortunately the have chosen Spiderman (Got the nickname because he is quite tall and you just see arms and legs sticking out) Ruben Xaus to ride for the team. Not sure if they picked the best guy for the job. I would have used Troy Corser as he is a very good development rider. But lets wait and see

Re: BMW Super Bike
I saw that, but they had other test riders that they used, and Xaus will be racing for them, he has a two year contract...
At the end of the test, the team and the three test riders were all happy with the progress of the bike and eager to work on analysing all the data before moving on to the next stage in the bike’s development.
The three riders, Steve Martin, Kevin Curtain and Jeremy McWilliams, said “The basics of the S 1000 RR are very good, the engine has good power, the chassis and suspension are working well and the bike has the basis of a Superbike racer already.”

'WE COULD SURPRISE A FEW PEOPLE NEXT YEAR'
'IT MAKES GOOD POWER': Supersport racer Kevin Curtain accelerates the BMW S1000 RR out of a corner during testing at the Lausitzring in Germany.
July 22, 2008
In the eight months since BMW’s announcement that it would enter the World Superbike championship in 2009, the new S1000 RR has been tested at various racetracks in Spain.
Now it's been tested for the first time at a track used by the World Superbike series – the Lausitzring in eastern Germany.
A recent two-day test there gave the team a chance to compare the S1000 RR's lap times with those recorded during the 2007 race weekend'The bike already has the makings of a Superbike racer'.
By the end of the session the three test riders – Supersport racer Kevin Curtain, Superbike rider Steve Martin and former GP rider Jeremy McWilliams – agreed:
"The basics of the S1000 RR are good, the engine has good power, the chassis and suspension are working well and the bike already has the makings of a Superbike racer."
BMW Motorsport manager Berti Hauser said: "We're under no illusions about the amount of work we have to do before the start of the 2009 season.
"Up to now we've been working on the basics and have done very little development on the bike's electronics; if we keep progressing at this pace we could surprise a few people next year."

Re: BMW Super Bike
Yes, I must say I am very tempted to place my order. I have been waiting for BMW to bring out a real superbike. My son rides a Honda Fireblade, so maybe dad can give him a go! What would the world be like without boys and their toys.
