Blood Run - Add your name?

Who is willing to help the South African National Blood Service and donate blood?
On 29 August we have the opportunity to donate blood and to see what platelet donation is all about.
Where: At the Apheresis Unit at Lifestyle Management Park next to Unitas Hospital in Centurion.
Time: the first session is at 7:00 and members are requested to book a time with Dani - every half hour until 11:00.
If you don't care to wait, you can be there any time between 7:00 and 11:00.
There is also a centre in Queenswood where you can donate in future if you so prefer.
The session on the 29th in Centurion is a special Bikers's session.
Kindly email dani@bmwclubs.co.za in the next 2 weeks to book your time.

Baie tereurstellend - nog net 5 van ons - where is the rest of the club. Can we not perhaps include Think Bike in this worthy cause - then we might jack up the numbers. Where is all the people living to the South of Pretoria/Centurion???

Uhmmm.. around grade 2 I was in hospital with hepatitis. I can't remember which one and that doesn't make the blood people happy. I've only gone for donations once and then only because I asked them and then they pasted the bag full of warning stickers... So not that I don't want to

So - had the same problem in 1981 - your blood will be used to create blood products that is also very critical. There is normally a window period of roughly 8 years or so wherein you cannot donate blood - not sure of the length thereof - might be more, might be less. Once that has lapsed your (Mine) blood is then regardeda safe.

Its been a while that I last donated blood, for other people to use, although I donated some blood about two years ago in an accident. Lets see how it go's.

"Safe blood saves lives.
Thousands of people would die daily if there is no sufficient quality blood in stock.
If one donates blood, the donor gives patient the gift money cannot buy or science cannot create.
A unit of blood donation can equal three gifts of life in that almost every unit of blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets.
Who needs blood?
Below are categories of people who need blood transfusion:
Women haemorrhaging due to pregnancy complication;
Children with severe anaemia;
Accident victims; and
Surgical and cancer patients.
You make a difference in somebody’s life by donating blood.
Donation procedures:
A donor will:
Complete a questionnaire containing personal details;
Answer questions relating to their health and social behaviour;
Undergo one-on-one interview as a follow-up to their answers;
Have their iron (haemoglobin) level checked, blood pressure and pulse rate will be taken;
Be allowed to donate one unit of blood (480ml) – a couple of refreshments will replace lost fluid in one’s body.
Requirements for donation:
Weigh at least 50kg;
Between ages of 16 and 65;
Healthy;
Lead a sexually safe lifestyle; and

I guess that's the biggest benefit of a road bike, their riders last longer!
