I remember 19 March 2006

……. to the day three years ago

In the wider context of life, not a big deal and I’m sure a lot of people have much better stories to tell but for me, this date holds special significance.

I was afforded a second bite at the proverbial cherry……….and it was 3 very special years.

was stopped in my tracks when I suffered a heart attack on the bike on 19 March 2006 and certainly look at life completely differently since. So very, very grateful for the second change…….I was able to enjoy my family and ride my bikes for another precious 3 years…..

Jip, I suspect we can all do with some kind of wake-up call some time or another. Awesome that you survived to be able to change things. For so many it is too late.

ps. My daughter's birthday today... guess I will remember in future.

I read a book last year about cycles in life and wake-up calls. Let's not wait until we all have a major event such as this before we re-evaluate what we are doing, rather view this as our own major event and wake-up call ....

I lost my Mom at age 55 to cancer, but my Dad is still going strong at 82 ! I hope I have his genes !

Just heard Wack-head this morning wishing a lady in Germiston a Happy 100th ! What an achievement !

Jamie - that was the first day of the rest of your life - you were certainly given a 2nd chance - use it to the fullest - a point to ponder here - life as if today is the last day, you dont know what tomorrow may bring. Every day after said date is and was a bonus.

Thank you for sharing this with us Jamie. it certainly makes you think about life and the "what if's". Very glad that you are still with us, and that we were given the chance to get to know you!!!

I second all the sentiments posted. Now if we can just help you kick that other bad habit, then my work here is done!!

Life is short in the greater scheme of things, that is why as people, we are blessed with such strong emotions, we live lifetimes in one.

On a more serious note, Glad to have you around and hope that the next chapter will be filled with joy and happiness both regarding family and biking, but I know for you those two go hand in hand.
