A good list of tips from KiwiBiker forum:

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=52318

BTW: I use a ThrottleMeister (also known under other trade names) - a plastic attachment to the throttle that enables you to keep the throttle open using the palm of your hand.
I recommend it for two reasons:
1. It reduces hand strain
2. It allows you to ride with your right hand open, fingers covering the front brake.

Depending on the speed you are travelling, in the time it takes to release the throttle, open your hand and grip the brake lever, you will travel anything 50-100m - enough to actually hit the object instead of stopping in time..!

Always ride with at least 2 fingers on the brake leaver - rolling the throttle close will automatically ensure that you brake - saves seconds that can mean the difference between stopping in time or not.
Dont focus on the traffic directly in front of you - but keep an eye on the traffic 3 cars ahead of you - you are sitting higher than the traffic so it should not be a problem.
Distrust al traffic - think for everybody
Distrust 2 way stop streets where you have the right of way.
We all have certain safety issues that we apply - add to this list.
Regards and safe driving. LeRoy

I think the emphasis here is on what we as riders do that work for us. I think most of us have a few that we can add. LeRoy

Never be in a hurry bounce is my tip. Even if you are late, it is better to arrive late than arriving in the newspaper.

If listening to music is a distraction I wonder what about the Beemers with built-in radios? I guess it is OK as long as you don't relay the sound to the speakers in your helmet. I guess it is only dangerous if you cannot hear the other sounds around you. Any comments Question

Music does not detract the attention - we have done roughly 70 000kms on LT's with music in the headphones. Makes a long road short.

Music is great!
But I must also say that I cannot listen to a radio while gunning up and down Auteniqua Pass or training on a circuit! Maybe others can but I find that it takes my attention away when I have to concentrate on tight corners and high sppeds.
Fortunately Ina and I do not do that often so most of the time we sit chatting away. We sometimes find that a radio and or music interferes with our chatting so we end up doing kilometer after kilometer just enjoying each other's company.
When I am alone it is another story. Then I enjoy the music and likeLeRoy said: It makes a long road short.

I do the same. I am just wondering about the iPod comment earlier.

Renier has an iPod that has a remote control on the handlebars. Does anybody know where we can get one like that? (I do not seem to see Renier any more, or is he under another name?)
