Jaaa swaer... So today at Sambok I broke the Yamaha's kick starter lever in two. I'm not sure if it reflects on the quality of the lever, or my right leg
So I'll be doing Rhino with my "backup" bike
PS. If you thought genuine BMW spares are expensive, try swallowing this: Yamaha quotes me a whopping R1655 for a metal stick 20 cm long!!!
Groot skade, swaer, groot skade...

Okay! I just got back from Rhino.
Plenty mud patches, sudden water pools, dry patches I discovered while riding with a quad ahead of bakkies looking for safe routes. Outcome very muddy. Plenty cleaning afterwards.

Re: Sunday 14/06/2009 - Rhino Park - Lekker Sand (Modder) !!!!
What a day! But wait... I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Pauli, Drix, Bruno Bonotto, Koekels & Joy. We had "emmers vol pret". Highlights include Drix practically submerging the F800GS, but pulled off the save of the day. Bruno did a spectacular horizontal parking on his way out. It was a great idea to tackle the beach first thing before we were too tired. The rain also compacted the sand to a very nice and manageable consistency.
After the beach, we took the short quad trail around the MX track. Koekels' right handguard bears silent testimony of what has transpired...
Bonotto coming down a steep hill, right into the muddy water. This obstacle took a couple by surprise...
Sharkie at his new baby - too bad the rear end needs cleaning already! The enduro route was absolutely soaked - practically one big bog.
Drix taking the long way around. For once he didn't try to take the most difficult line possible!
Koekels spectating - relatively unscathed so far.
Drix making it to the spectator area.
Pauli just after trying to change lanes (from bad to worse)... and having to start over.
Ettienne pointing out the line to Joy.
Joy had other plans...
Pieter roosting his way through the middle of it.
Ettienne taking Joy's bike for a mud bath.
My bike after returning from the enduro outride. At many stages the Tourance tires made no impression on the terrain whatsoever.
Yes Drix - it WAS that tough!
After finishing off with a customary burger & loop-dop at Sambok, Sharkie felt compelled to tackle the skills course with his new pride & joy.
The track was however not in great shape and Pieter had to left-right Ettienne through the obstacles.
Mr. Pieterse just before he didn't put his foot down
Thank you everyone - Ettienne, Colin, Pieter, Zonica, Pauli, Joy, Drix and Bruno. It was SUPREMO fun
Now for washing the bikes & clothes!

Re: Sunday 14/06/2009 - Rhino Park - Lekker Sand (Modder) !!!!
Thanks to everyone, it was such an awesome day!!!
I thought last Sunday was good, but today was one of THE best days EVER !!!
BIG WELL DONE for Marnus for managing that 1200 through some of the stuff we dealt with today!! Well done to Joy for sticking it out and completing the enduro loop (the mud-loop!!) Koekels, well let me say this: that girl CAN RIDE!!!!
Well done to Drix for choosing all the most difficult lines, just to see if he can make it!!!
Mr Bonotto had to leave to go and blow his Vuvusela!! Mr Bonotto: you missed out on a great load of fun, but we all appreciated your summersault on the beach.
Pieter, Colin and Pauli were secretly laughing at us because they brought their plastics bikes, but even the plastics were a hand full!!
And the X-Challenge, what can I say, It is an AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME bike. It is a plastic bike that you can tour with. It outclasses my GS in pretty much all aspects!!!
Thanks Marnus for the pics, I hope Drix's pics come out as nice as yours!!

Re: Sunday 14/06/2009 - Rhino Park - Lekker Sand (Modder) !!!!
I see there was plenty water by the little dam in the secondary airfield (grass runways). I did not go to the dam yesterday, nor this afternoon at 15:00. I came to work on my microlight.
Plenty muddy bikes and riders was to be seen this afternoon.
Sharkie, I see you gave your new ride a celebration of note. Nice!

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Disappointed we didn't make it but this seems like plastic bike stuff, so maybe just as well. Anybody planning a not so muddy ride on Tuesday morning that one can do with 1200/800?

Re: Sunday 14/06/2009 - Rhino Park - Lekker Sand (Modder) !!!!
Well, what a day!! Tx to all, I really enjoyed it and big respect to the girls! ... and Marnus the strong man on that 1200 on the enduro loop. Man, was it slippery... and I think I qualify for a submarine skipper's cap... THAT was close, no skill.. just luck!
Here goes...
The arrival... some were later than others, but nobody seemed to be in a rush.
Since we knew it could be tough today, hands were taken and there was time for a quick prayer circle by the experienced elders...
NOW I know exactly how deep that piece of water is over there...
Bruno ready to drop...
..and coming through...
Marnus styling it...
My love...
Everyone jumping out of the way of the Brazilian fighter pilot (we're not too sure how good their training is...!)
Man and machine - both taking a break...
Sharkie's love...
Sharkie has washing to do...
We told Pauli NOT to take that line...
Pieter on the other hand didn't care about lines...
Sharkie almost in time to help Joy...
...but to no avail...
Mud-Pooh-bah, the King of the Castle... uh.. mud! Respect!
What Marnus does to his love...
The X never missed a beat...
Tired but happy!
Colin turning grey waiting for Marnus to finish with his bike...
My poor baby!
....another perfect day!

Let's head straight back 'there' via railroad track or Boschkop/Donkerhoek gravel roads?
