Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
So the plan was to get in some sand practice at Rhino Park, and despite the depressing weather Jens, Jared, Sias and I met Etienne at Rhino Park. There we decided it was simply just not worth the R60 to just do sand at the beach and we decided to rather go to the old sand quarry behind Sambok bar. Obviously we first stopped at Sambok after working in our first gravel road. It was clear that the roads were properly soaked after the recent rains. But the bar was closed, so no beer or coffee at 09:00
We then headed to the quarry and had loads of fun with the loamy soil and ramps.
Obviously we had to determine whether the BMWs could do it I'm sure everyone would agree that Jared was pretty good at it!

And I
We then took the railway service road around the back to Rayton where we enjoyed a nice breakfast. After popping in at Sambok bar to check if they were open (nope?!) we took a gravel highway through Boschkop back tot the Railway bridge at the Boschkop road. We decided to follow the railway track towards the big bridge. It was soon very clear that this little road had some big mud!
At some point we had to work around this bakkie that got horribly stuck in the mud. Who said 4 wheels are better than 2!
Always nice to see where you came from - and yes, it was as slippery as it looks!
Some bikes are going to need some soap and water...
All in all it was the best R60 that I didn't spend. And how fitting to celebrate Freedom day in this way!!

Re: Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
Very very nice ride today!!!
It was wet, cold and extremely slippery.
This was on my way to Rhino Park, it was starting to rain at this point:
Like Marnus said, we had a ball at the old quarry, man those 1200Adv's can jump!! That pic of Jared almost looks like it is photoshopped, but I can assure you, it was a HUUUGE jump, I was right behind him and thought he was going to do a back-flip!!!! - Adrenalin is your friend
Some of my pics of the jumps:
Sias, my trigger finger a bit quick
Marnus, now my trigger finger a bit slow
Marnus on the second try:

Re: Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
Then we took the railway line to Rayton, very very wet, and completely overgrown. I was wetter from this piece of track than I was from all the rain!!
Breakfast at Rayton with a rat running around causing havoc for one of the patrons in the little restaurant, it was quite funny.
Then a nice and fast dirt road, and then the mud started. Ride a railway line after (or in) rain and you are 100% guaranteed to find lots of mud.
Some of the mud pics:

Sias - Well done Sias 1, Mud 0
Jared - Mud 2, Jared 0
Jens can be very happy that he turned home after the Boschkop road
Here is a pic of what this mud looked like, it was very slippery stuff. WELL DONE to Marnus and Jared for taking those big beasts through this stuff, BIG RESPECT !!!!!!
Marnus having a ball, check the smile!!
This is a TKC on the front:
And a TKC on the rear:
With a Dunlop D606 on the front, this mud was thick!!
One more of the mud:
We were even passed by a train on the service road
Thanks to all the die hard fans that turned out today, it was a great ride! Big thanks to Marnus for organising, we will do the sand next time!!!

Re: Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
Glad you guys had a good time! The quarry looked like fun! It was raining at 23h00 when I went to sleep, so I decided to skip and not activate the alarm. I woke at 8h15 and enjoyed my sleep-in!

Re: Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
Thanks Marnus for organising a great day! And thanks to all for joining in! It turned out much better than I expected. Not that the beach at Rhino is boring Just thought it was going to be a quick hour or two at the beach and then home. Boy-o-boy was I surprised! Let’s not wait for the next Freedom Day before we do it again!
P.S. Sorry you had to wait for me! I hit the wrong snooze button
Now I owe you guys a cold one!

Re: Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
Yes, Thanks a lot to Marnus for organising. I had a really nice day despite of all the typicaly German weather :-) and I am glad that I took the oportunity to train in that conditions (thank you guys for convincing me). And of course thanks to all the cool pictures...next time I will bring my camera as well...

Re: Rhino Park Sand... NOT!
It sure looks like you guys had fun! Looking at all the mud, I think it was a wise decision to just lie in and listen to the rain.
