Beestekaal stasie, canals and the Rock...........
So we were four.
I arrived at the Caltex garage at Mahem at 07:25 to find Drix already waiting. We chat for a while, and as I went into the little shop to get something to drink, Drix's colleague, Leon, arrived on his immaculate black Funduro. We chatted and waited a little while until Colin arrives. He was freezing. It was pretty cold this morning. Drix noted that on his bike's thermometer it was 0deg.
We made our way over Horn's Nek, where the temp was significantly warmer on the northern side of the Magaliesberge. We stopped at the Sasol Garage near Brits for some much needed coffee as Mahem did not have any. Then we hit the canal roads, awesome riding with nice jumps and just one crazy dude in a Nissan 1400 bakkie that thought he was a rally driver, he almost took Colin out!!!
We made some good time and had a very dusty ride to the turn-off to the Rock at Jericho. We said goodbye to Leon who had to head back to Pretoria, and made our way to go and see what this "famous" rock looks like, and to see what is so special about "Koos se Klim" Of all the ride reports I have read on "Koos se Klim" I could only find three Dual Sport bikes that attempted the climb, a Honda XR650, a KTM640 and a KLR650, all made "Koos se Klim" on those ride reports. I can tell you one thing, those okes are NUTS!!!! The climb is moer steep!!! We decided to give Koos a miss. We went to the other route to the top and myself and Drix gave it a go. We got up the first little bit with no problems, I then decided that I would rather not risk another fall at the moment, and waited to see Drix take the second stretch further up. I went back down and we waited for Drix to return back down, which he did without incident. We then took a nice sandy ride around the rock and headed to Beestekraal Stasie for lunch. Do a search on youtube for "Koos se klim" to get an idea, here is a link to one clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Nfvr4iWeQ
Here are two links to the KLR650 and the KTM640 doing Koos se klim.

Re: Beestekaal stasie, canals and the Rock...........
After Beestekraal, we took some more canal and mine roads all the way back to Hartebeespoort, where we said goodbye to Drix.
Me and Colin headed for Lanseria to see if the road I tracked on Google Earth is actually ridable. It is an very beautiful winding up and down road, but it ends with gate onto private land, so we had to turn around.
We took a short cut from Lanseria airport to Erasmia, that crossed the Jukskei river on serious low lever bridge. We made it over the river without incident. We wanted to have a beer at Zwartkops, but the bar was closed, so we said our goodbyes and headed home.
All in all it was a great ride. I did 360km and it was awesome, thanks to my riding buddies, Colin, Drix and Leon !!!
I did not have my camera with me, but Drix took a few pics!!!

As jy Koos se klim met daai vark van jou kan uit-ry, dan is jy moer goed!!
Daai ding is vreeslik steil. Die ander pad tot bo sal jy met die 1150Adv kan ry, soos hierdie is foto's van 'n ander ride report.

Ronald!!!!

I just saw this and simply had to reply. My dakar has been up Koos se klim - I went out there, and up there (to the top) with a group of Wild Dogs.. tho one time we went out the landrover with us fell over...!
This is, we do it, and don't have to write about it.. those canals are fun!
