Well, I see WOA has a sale 1-8 Apr. On their web site (wat ek met 'n knippie sout sal vat, nie altyd ge-update nie) Tech 7's are R4,700.

Well I have my Alphinestar Tech 7 boots, that I bought from World of Accessories this morning. Rather comfy to wear. Thought they be worse. Heavy for sure, not your walking city boots.

Re: Boots for off road riding
Well done - you won't be sorry. Once you're used to the weight (=protection) it won't bother you and you'll never feel comfortable/safe in softer/lighter shoes again. And as long as they are not too small, you'll be surprised how far and wide you can walk with them.
This is one way of using your boots... This is going up Sani - my wife got stuck with our non-4x4 bakkie, clutch was starting to burn, so I parked the bike a few hairpins up, came back down, and got it going around one bend. She then took over again and on my advice put foot and screamed around the corners. I was ready for the clutch to burn out and the car running backwards to some unsure destination, hence my haste to follow!

Re: Boots for off road riding
Full Throttle currently has a sale on for the month of May. I can get a pair of Gearne SG10 boots from them for +- R4700. Can anyone tell me what the quality of these boots are. Are they comfortable? Is it worth the price?

Re: Boots for off road riding
No sorry Kobus I can't give any input about the boots you mentioned, but want to tell my story -
Of course I already have BMW's Santiago boots. Good boots but not long enough. I got a huge bruise on my shin a while ago just above the boot.
Many a salesman will kill me, but:
I was therefore looking for boots that will protect my lower leg as far as possible - as I have long legs, it was difficult to find any that would fit me well.
In the end I bought knee guards for R145 a pair, those that you fasten around the calf with 2 velcro straps.
I wore them now (without the knee guards of my pants) on both the Sani and the Transkei trips and am very happy with them.
Very comfortable and there is no gap between the boot and the guard which means no part of my shin is exposed.

Re: Boots for off road riding
Kobus,
Gaerne SG10 and Alpinestars Tech7 boots are probably THE BEST off-road boots out there. The BMW GS boot is also a very good boot and retails for about R 3700 if I am not mistaken.
But R4700 for SG10's is a BARGAIN ! !!!!!!!!!
I would say get them before they all dissapear !!!

Re: Boots for off road riding
I cannot decide what boots to buy…. Strapped for cash I am looking at the following:
Fly Racing Stinger (R1200)
O’Neal Element (R1500)
No Fear Trophee (R1700 – on special)
Shift Combat (R1800)
Thor Quadrant (R1900)
I know I have to try them all on first and then decide. But if you have any opinions at this stage, please share! If there are no real difference, I will obviously go for the cheapest ones…
Much appreciated!

Re: Boots for off road riding
I need off-road boots too, but I have calves like a rugby forward (50cm in circumference.) All the BMW boots I have tried on ar either too short or won't close at the top around my legs...
Any suggestions on makes with adjustable tops?

Hi Sias,
I started out looking at the same boots, the O'Neal's and Thor Quadrants . . . had my mind made up that is was going to be one of the two
Went to WOA and fitted both of them and the sales guy said I must just try the Gaerne Fastback which was 'n bit more, R2500 I think. The extra ankle support and comfort between the Gaerne Fastback and the other two could not be compared!
I eventually bought the Gaerne Fastback's, for 'n bit more and when you think about it paying a bit more for better ankles support is worth it, because ankles can't be bought

Re: Boots for off road riding
You will also not go wrong with the Thor Quadrants. Me and Colin rode with it for about 4 years. Very comfortable boot with more than enough protection for riding GS and intermediate off-road.

I was also seriously considering Thor Quadrants, but went for the ONeil Elements because I got a very good price on them.

Re: Boots for off road riding
So far I have absolutely no issues with the ONeils whatsoever. I wear them on the GS trips & for MX/Enduro riding, and never suffered lower leg / foot damage. But then again - I don't fall that often either (touch wood!).
The first two or three times I wore them, they were somewhat uncomfortable, but that's not the case anymore - on the contrary, I feel much safer with them!
The buckles are adjustable and I can even stuff the leggings of my Rallye Pro 2 pants inside the boots without any discomfort.
My primary consideration when looking for boots was actually what they looked like!!! Most MX boots are quite "bling" and I prefer a more conservative-looking boot. I must say by going on looks those Thor's and Shift's are verrrry attractive!

Re: Boots for off road riding
In the end I decided on the Diadora MX3’s (advised by Colin and Pauli-sort of):
Although they only had them in blue...
Tried on the MX4’s but the MX3’s fitted better. Obviously not the best boot on the market, but I’m quite pleased. The fact that the shop is situated in Centurion also played a big role. I hate having to go to Joburg every time I need something!
Thanks to everyone's imputs and advice!
