Can the Proteas make it?
The Proteas require another 276 runs .. 8 wickets in hand.
Do you remember the 414 for 4 - the first test in Perth?

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
that would be the highest ever 2nd innings chase against Aus at the Wanderers.....by some margin
doable and it will be good to draw the crowds back to test cricket.
let's hold thumbs!

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
We're making sure that we won't win the Durban test either .. SO with Smith out, are we pulling in Bodi to open or dropping AB down the order to make room for Prince ... Mackie hasnt made runs, maybe take a chance on Hershelle again, only 1 test after-all, still a long time before England comes here ..

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
No excuse but it sure looks like the rub of the green poor bowling and overhead conditions played a huge role in the precarious position we now find ourselves in at the Durban test. We have now lost the toss against them for the last 5 games
The South African attacks shortage of game time was their undoing. After the third Test in Sydney in January, the Proteas played only one-day and Twenty20 internationals in the build-up to the home series. It was perhaps a mistake by team management not to ensure Makhaya and Morné get some game time prior to the series so that they could find their rhythm and these are bowlers that rely on rhythm.
Once the old Transvaal selectors are out, Mckenzie will not be part of the lineup. Good replacements that come to mind is Blake Snijman Imran Khan and Darren Smit. Smit is an excellent gloves man, bowler and Bat ….what more do you want.

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
Tme has marched on ..
You're right: McKenzie isn't part of the line-up... and Van der Merwe and Parnell are doing well.
And the Proteas have the South Aficans behind them again!

Get of that couch and rather come and ride some sand with us
I rather do sports than watch it. The andrenaline rush watching some riders in the sand is way more than seeing some blokes chasing a white ball
DSTV has got a very handy highlights channel where you can pick up all the details very fast.
In any case I think SA has the best balanced team in the 20/20 Cup, although I would get rid of both Boucher and Kallis in the 20/20 team. Boucher can easily be replaced by AB at WK and then we can put a Loots Bosman type player in.
Although Kallis is now opening and doing well, he is batting way to slow in the powerplay overs. We need a player than can go big or go home to really be in a match winning situation after 7 overs. Kallis is just not that guy.
In any case we should win the Cup, unless Gayle of the WI has a very good game and sort us out. Unfortunately 20/20 is a bit of a gamble and sometimes luck on the day plays a very big part.

Mud
Your summation of a proposed team is spot on. I bet you have played this game before and not just watched highlights from the coach.
What is your take on batting a guy like Roelof or Morkel first or second wicket down?

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
I will probably not bat Roelof (I like his temperament, but his batting technique is...errr interesting) or Morkel at no3/4 on a regular basis. But should the second wicket fall after the 15th over I will definitely send in Morkel. Both batsmen will probably battle with their technique against the new ball in the first 5 or 7 overs. But maybe the Proteas must experiment a bit more (I think Roelof was sent in no 4 against Eng and he battled on a pitch that had a bit of kick in it) on the various pitches and conditions. Although I do like the impact Morkel has when he comes in at the closing overs.

Ja-nee Die "%£$^£$^ Afridi. Kry gewoonlik niks reg nie dan moet hy nou juis wakker word as hulle teen ons speel.
Ons het naelskraaps teen 'n bleddie goeie ou wat 'n besondere goeie dag beleef het verloor.
Maar ek dink nog steeds Kallis het te stadig gekolf..............
Jammer AB of Smith kon nie op dreef kom nie
So hoekom is die res van julle so stil???? Weer nie julle werk in die week gedoen nie en nou moet alles vandag gebeur ne......

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
Ag tog.. ek's skoon depressief.
Good toss to win for #$%^ Afridi and the Pakistan team as it appeared batting second wasn't easy.
Dale Steyn did bowl a few gift balls and the fielding from Smith wasn't up to the Proteas standard...
But I'll still back them in the longer version of the game as T20 is a bit of a lottery.
Looking forward to the next series!

Re: Can the Proteas make it?

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
Kallis - But the question that begs answering is - what is bafanas chance if at all, and will we (Bokke) play the same backward game played over the last 30 minutes of the second half. The end of the game saved the game.

Re: Can the Proteas make it?
Ok this is now hi-jacked
I don't know why we made those changes all at once and in doing so breaking up combinations, taking our captain off and players who were performing well. What started off to be a good butt kicking exercise, had us biting our nails. Hopefully the next game we will field our strongest side for the full 80 min.
