The clan is going to ET
We are going to Eastern Transvaal this weekend (20 to 22 Feb) with Hazyview as base. Will be staying at Krugerpark Lodge and plan to leave around 13:00 on Friday. Lots of accommodation in and around Hazyview.........
anybody interested is welcome to tag along.........not a lot of structure, just a nice informal fun weekend of riding and relaxing.

Re: The clan is going to ET
no, the dreaded R word...............
R E C A L L !!!
Motorrad SA halted all sales of K1300's (S, R and GT) in the country (apparantly under instruction from Germany)......actually they grounded all 1300's, demos included. The funny thing is, the rest of the world knows nothing about a potential problem????
Since Friday last week they made invoicing impossible and yesterday they informed all dealers not to deliver any 1300 until Germany responds to a potential problem which they undertook to do within 24hrs. Today the 24hrs turned to 48 hrs.
No word as yet of what it is all about and at this hour I have had confirmation from California, Dublin, Londen, Austria and Spain...........nobody knows anything about any problem nor are deliveries affected elsewhere.

Re: The clan is going to ET
I think they are holding them back because the K1300S gives the rider immediate super powers, such as ability to defy gravity, elude the authorities and making guys drool / ladies' knees weak
Ag, they are probably just holding them back until they have been tamed with rev limiters and governing chips
I hope it gets sorted out soon!

Re: The clan is going to ET
All back safe after a wonderful trip……..and how can it not be. I mean what more can one expect from a weekend……….to be with family and friends in paradise with good food, bikes (fast ones) and some relaxing.
Very indifferent start to the trip though.
We actually scheduled this trip around the arrival of the new K1300S but as you might have seen from earlier posts in this thread, on Wednesday last week Germany and or BMW Motorrad SA grounded all new 1300’s in SA – K, R and GT – with the promise that within 24 hrs (which turned 48 hrs) they would inform all concerned as to what and why. Approaching Friday (no answers yet) and realizing this thing is going south, I started changing travel arrangements by getting my other bike ready for the trip (amongst others fitting a new rear at 11:00 on Friday). We delayed the final decision to the last possible minute and at 12:30 I decided the Blade it will (must) be….all hype out of the window but we had made all the arrangements and we are going ahead. Three of us left home at 13:00 to meet Wahl en route. As a result of classes, our youngest boy was to leave later with a car, his bike on a trailer and the rest of the crew.
At Millys there was a message on my phone saying the K1300’s had been released and are good to be ridden………………….??????????
Not a word on why and what???????? They have not done ANYTHING to my bike since the grounding order so the problem (if there ever was any) must have mysteriously fixed itself from Wednesday morning to Friday afternoon. ??????
Somewhat cynical for me to say but I sincerely hope there was really something wrong (although nobody seems to know what) and that this was not some big time corporate BS. Be it as it may it left a rather sour taste with me…….not necessarily the potential problem but to be kept totally in the dark…………….. and I don’t particularly fancy to be played like a puppet and as it happened, a very uninformed one
Decision time at Millys………do I turn back to go and fetch the new bike and face riding to ET in the dark? do I just forget about the new bike for the weekend? or do I ask our son to turn back, off load his bike, load the new bike, reload his bike and let them driving in the dark to ET……the later it was……they arrived (safely) at 22:00
given the above, please excuse me if the 1300 appears in a lot of pics.
Very nice ride to Hazyview and for the record the Blade just proofed once more what an exceptional machine it is………in it’s element in superbike country
due to circumstances beyond our control we had more bikes available than riders with the trusty Hondas well represented
ready to depart Saturday morning..........high expectations and excitement in the air
the ladies had there own agenda for the day so it was a men only outride
it doesn’t often happen that I have both my bikes at the same time in biking paradise
first stop Saturday
as Wahl said elsewhere, it was a wonderful day for riding
my friend and my two (trusted) riding companions
breakfast in Graskop……ain’t that a very classy selection of bikes?
bike in the forest
restaurant must have been full………they started seating people on the roof
drinks stop
at
I have the (nasty) habit of cleaning my bike after every ride……even on a trip . so I figure……new clean bike needs a special parking allocation
exceptional bike parked next to an extraordinary tree
What do I think about the 1300?............................
Wow, wow and wow
Power is noticeable up on the already monstrous K12 with an extra 136cc, 6kw and 10nm torque. The ESAII is something very special. Far more exact settings than ESA. In principle the suspension determines the load on the bike first when you select a certain setting or if you like, it weighs you first. In terms of handling it’s the best I have ever ridden before and even on the notorious “22” which is superbike territory by nature, it excels with distinction.
what I don’t like………….
the single side switchgear
sincere thanks to all who made this a very special weekend
