Re: What type of accommodation do you prefer?
My favourite at the moment is self-catering. I do love camping but am not really kitted with all the right stuff for “bike camping”. I will get there systematically an then camping would probably be my favourite. The advantage for me of camping (other than the fact that it is cheap) is that you are not tempted to hang in and around the tent for too long. So you are motivated (forced) to get out and do stuff when travelling or on holiday.
When the accommodation is too comfortable, you tend to waste too much of your holiday time there…

Re: What type of accommodation do you prefer?
i share the believe of MadnohB! after a good day travel i prefere a roof and solid bed to get a good rest for the night!
did the camping vibe for many years, enjoyed it, but with age we prefere the room and shower, the breakfast and the dry condition to recover for a new days ride!
of corse, in malawi and mozambique the story is a different matter! did lake malawi for seven times and allways found a good place, cheap & good food, to rest!
mozambique is on the "things to do list" so i can not realy speak out on that!
looking forward to the sani trip, i am glad to have a room and food ready after a exhausting ride!

I still regard myself as a very active 35...plus packaging and postage !
(I've got an 8-year head start on you, remember...that's like one being in Matric when another was in Std2.
A friend of mine's mother went into labour waiting for us at the bustop on our last day in school.
When I was invited to that little kid's 21st, I felt somewhat older!))

When I travel alone to places such as Namibia, by Landrover or by GS, I prefer to keep it simple. As long as the place is secure, clean and Palooka-less. The latter not always so easy. Unfortunatly southern africa now suffers from an over-abundance of Palookas, travelling in expensive 4wd's and towing trailers full of k@k...

Re: What type of accommodation do you prefer?
That is quite true, but is still prefer BB, and see everything less than 3 star as camping. Have slept in the open enough times in my life. Prefer to have a comfy bed, own bath/shower and toilet. The ameneties of life that one has to pay for, but makes travelling and touring worth it. If your pillion is happy - you will have a happy ride. Lastly - dont like traveling alone - wife always on the back of the LT

Re: What type of accommodation do you prefer?
I prefer camping. Yea I know I'm a cheap skate, but (1) fancy places is not always available and (2) it's a helluva lot easier to keep out the mosquito's in a 3x3 m tents than in a lodge room.
Killing that one little bastard that manages to sneak in somewhere requires one quick spray from a can of doom, while in a room, it will take a lot more effort.
.......but I agree - different strokes fordifferent folks
