Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
Andre has uploaded 89 pictures to a Flickr account that is in my name. The URL for it is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leroyelsabeoli4
The pictures have been left open for all to see. All that attended the ride can also upload their pictures here. Please ensure that no limitations are placed when downloading it.
Please identify the gallery as Andre did. The pictures taken by the Back-Up driver (Semi-professional photograper) will also be uploaded here for all to see and copy. As Flickr is specifically designed as a web based photo sharing medium, ons can download more picture than one can do on the forum.

LeRoy, please note that your link has a "full stop" at the back causing a problem when trying to connect. For those who want to look at the pictures, please just remove the full stop and then you will be able to get in

Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
I believe it is the property of Oom Groot Hendrik, the always present and willing backup driver. And the official picture taker. I think his film can never get finished as he was always just clicking away!
I heard of some other member who also still use an 'old fashioned' film camera.

Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
I think the damage you see was the result of hooligan cornering on the ride back from Katse Dam to the border. Saw the scrape markings on the tar/corners, and yes it is on a GS - new member - if i have my facts correct.

Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
Whether it should be "Brownie" or "Cracker" - the aim was to high to confirm either of the 2 - but seeing as this an open forum, frequented by all it is best that the aim was where it was.

Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
Looking at the condition of the tappet covers I would venture to say that said rider embarked on highly irresponsible riding on the Katse route. Having done the route previously the margin for error is about zero. The mountain and the ditch on one side and the cliff on the other side. Having an accident on that road not only places one's own life at risk but would make the trip for the rest of the group very unpleasant. When Theo Schoeman had the fatal accident on the "22" 10km outside Sabie it took 20-30 mins for his wife and friends to find where he had left the road.
We all enjoy fast twisties but that class of riding when you are part of a group is not even vaguely clever but plain stupid - irrespective of your riding experience.

Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
I somehow don't think it happened with the group - not sure myself as I was not with the group in Lesotho, but have heard it may have been a solo ride.

Re: Let the wheels roll . . .
This incident did not take place during the group ride but in fact as a solo as DaveS mentioned
Personally I feel any member of a group that would like to take a solo during the course of the organised ride/time should inform the group leader of such an intention and also the intended route to be taken. Then the backup can be available in case of a distress or non-return at a reasonable time.
In fact, there is enough time to do solos outside club rides. Why put the group "on call" when it was not a planned group venture?
