Re: Ok, here goes…… who has their PhD in dropsy?
I managed to drop my Gs one morning in my garage and it fell on my Car. The results GS 1: Volvo 0. And then the repair bill came for the car. It was in the region of R8000.
Bottomline is: Do not drop your bike on your car!!!!
PS: I am probably busy with my Postdoctorate in Dropsy

I think you score the best dropsy award for dropping your bike onto YOUR OWN car and having to enjoy repair bill for your vehicle.

Be grateful the Volvo cushioned the fall of the bike.
If it had hit the garage floor, the damage would have been over R20 000!

My most embarrassing drop was at a club training day at Swartkops with my R1100S. Stalled the engine on one of those infamous figure 8 turns R1k later she was as good as new but my ego took much more to repair

Re: Ok, here goes…… who has their PhD in dropsy?
I've been pretty fortunate... In two years of mostly GS riding (we don't really commute) I have had only two drops. Well one was a moving drop and the other basically just an "omdop".
In Botswana (Tuli Block) on a friend's farm (fully loaded - tyre pressure way too much) I had a moving fall in very thick sand. Only damage was a broken clutch lever due to hand guards bending down and breaking it. So that made for some riding without a clutch for a while, before a makeshift fix with cable ties and the works that lasted back to PTA.
Other one was last year's GS challenge in the Cederberge, thick sand on a very hot day, basically just fell over sideways! Fortunately no damage that time...
I must admit though - on my father's 1200 GS I've had a few close calls - the Dakar is a lot lighter than it's bigger brothers!

But it must be added that Andre was doing the turn in the rain in the very wet training session of 2005 that i mentioned in another posting.

Re: Ok, here goes…… who has their PhD in dropsy?
Ei - funny I should read this thread now, because just this morning I dropped (and dragged) my GS on a muddy dirt road :-( I consider myself still busy with my honours in Dropsy though.
I still have no idea what the damages will amount to, but when the left pillion footrest points upwards and not downwards like the other one, I guess it will involve more than just a paint job!
But I'm not planning on making a hobby of this - and I'm sure my insurance will appreciate that

Re: Ok, here goes…… who has their PhD in dropsy?
I parked my GS the other afternoon. I got off and saw that the top-box was leaning against the pole of the lean-to (afdak). So I lifted it off the side stand and moved it forward ten centimetres so it wouldn't touch the pole and let it rest on the side stand again...
...except the side stand WASN'T OUT! The bike fell onto me and pushed me into the flower bed as it toppled over onto the left side TT engine protector.
I picked myself up and did the back-to-the-saddle-lift using the lower handlebar and the grab handle at the top box.
Upright again, I made sure that the side stand WAS out and put it back again.
I felt a right twit, I must say!

Not nice Richard - but I would have loved to have seen your face at the point where you realised the sidestand was not out.
