The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
My sincere thanks to all who joined us on Saturday. We had a great time & lots of fun. Thanks Dave for leading the group to Badplaas and allowing the Malaga group to join you. It was a lovely ride with lots of variety. I am busy unloading my pictures and will post some soon. To Henk, Jester & Maureen, thanks for your company, it was nice to put a face to the friends I met on the forum. We must not wait too long before we plan our next trip. Henk, time to commit for the Fouriesburg - Katze trip Trust you all had a safe journey home

Re: The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
Yes except for the road tarmac vanishing here and there between Belfast and Stoffberg, the rest of the ride was nice. Bit of a bad side wind, the standard sized and larger potholes we have come to accept as par for the course siding back roads. Must admit the highways are mind numbing compared to the byways.

Re: The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
Dave, good news is I sorted the GPS problems when I got home. The bad news Could not use the GPS on this trip at all. Verdict You can find your way without a GPS as long as you have some friends (and a paper version of the map ) Advice Fix your YEF route before you post the final GPS file

No idea what caused it but all's well that ends well. My GPS is back to normal. Will load & test the route again to see what it does. Maybe something in the file caused the glitch

Re: The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
This is what makes the club so great, the people who are really experienced looks after us who are still learning the ropes. I was quite nervous on the first trip because I am used to motorbikes bragging at travelling at full throttle and I did not want to expose my wife to this type of riding.
I was pleasantly surprised and will always joing the group when I have the opportunity to do so.
See you guys at the FYE if not sooner.

We dont have to go bolls to the wall to prove we have the best bikes - riding beemers we know that. In any case anything above 160 becomes a bit unsafe - especially on public roads.

Bit of a bold statement - considering it is only an opion - others will disagree.
What determines "the best bike?"
Is is reliability, performance, etc??
Someone I know has a recent model BMW as well as a recent model jap bike - has had the recent models of both the last three years.
Now here is the crunch - the BMW's have been in for various repairs (excluding regular services) seven (7) times. The jap bikes - none, zip!!
So how is it that BMW's are the best bikes?? The jap bikes outperform them too!!
Like I said, it's a matter of opinion and the jap bike riders will consider theirs the best, the BMW riders likewise with their bikes and even the Harley crowd will consider theirs the best. Depends what you want the bike for - everyone has their own individual reason why they ride and choose the bike they ride.
Blatant generalisations that cannot be substantiated usually get a confrontational response.

Re: The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
Te each his own - so many topics - so many opinions. It is my opinion and i can air it - as everybody else does. I don't regard it as a blatant generelisation, it was based on my experience over the last few years with my LT's.
The 1990 model as well as the 2007 model I presently own. Presumably this is the reason why you also stick to the brand (6 Beermers between you and Dot since we have joined the club). The Superbike riders, Hardleydriveable riders, etc, may all feel their brand are the best - they're entitled to it.

Can not agree more.
In the same way I would like my opinion to be respected (not agreed with), I will respect any individual’s opinion (not necessarily agreeing with) and this is what this forum is all about……a podium for all to express views and to interact. However, if and when it becomes generalisations or statements on behalf of others, the whole complexity of the conversation changes.
If I would like to say something, surely it’s fit to refer to…….
my opinion, my view, I think, me etc.
When it is stated………..
wrote:We dont have to go bolls to the wall to prove we have the best bikes - riding beemers we know that
or
wrote:Beemer riders{in general} are gentleman and should behave like that
then imo, it becomes generalisations or statements (not opinions) on behalf of others and it will often provoke a negative {confrontational} response

Re: The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
I know alot of people that will have a diffirent view to the comment being refered to. BUT the the fact will remain that every bike is a compromize. You will have to compromize certain atributes for others from bike to bike and from brand to brand.....
I am going to though say that I do not believe there was no mal intent in the comment.
Sjoe a KTM owner coming up for a BMW owner!!
But don't let me stop the action..... as you were!!!

Re: The Badplaas - Malaga crowd
I will start a survey soon: Let's call it a SURVEY OF FAULTS.
You can post problems/repairs experienced after 'n' kilometers, model specific, and what was the procedure/cost to rectify.
In time the survey can help every owner to know when to be on the look-out for possible problems, and to know what to expect of his bike.
Shall we exclude GS Challenge entrants to take part in this survey? . .
