"DOT Approved" motorcycle helmets
How many time have you seen stickers on the back of a helmet with the words "DOT approved" ?
Have you ever used this as a method of selecting one helmet over another?
If you did, you've been taken for a ride...
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "DOT-APPROVAL" FOR HELMETS....!
There are even State laws in the USA that require bikers to wear DOT-approved helmets,
and yet "D.O.T. itself has no authority to 'approve' or 'not approve' any item of equipment and the phrase 'D.O.T. approved' has no meaning and should not be used."
4/8/98, John Womack, Acting Chief Counsel NHTSA.

You should duck faster - or see where she is before you make comments that might be taken up as the mood fits.

Re: "DOT Approved" motorcycle helmets
Interesting about the DOT, I would've placed a bet that it is some sort of "approval". At least we have a South African standard that is in place
SANS 20022:2005/ECE R22:2002
(SABS ECE R 22)
Title Uniform provisions concerning the approval of protective helmets and of their visors for drivers and passengers of motor cycles and mopeds
Date approved 2005-10-28
Edition 2.00
Amendments
Abstract Applies to protective helmets for drivers and passengers of mopeds and of motor cycles with or without side-car and to the visors fitted to such helmets or intended to be added to them.
International relatedness ECE R22:2002 IDT
Date reaffirmed
Date withdrawn
Replaces SANS 20022 (SABS ECE R 22)

No idea, point was merely that there are standards other than DOT. I would hope that Lafe would adhere to these ?
