How many people are departing on the 18th (Morning and afternoon) or 19th.Where is the sleep over?
The backup will depart at +- 2pm on the 18th and the sleep over will be at Gariep

Bike Fest Departing dates Empty Road Update

GRASMERE TOLL PLAZA
Incidents of stone-throwing and obstruction on the road have been reported in past years, just after the Grasmere Toll Plaza towards Evaton (South). Beware of pedestrians. Exercise caution and be vigilant. Daytime travelling is advised.
VAAL TOLL PLAZA / KROONSTAD
Strong winds occasionally occur in this area and can be very dangerous. Motorists and especially truck drivers are advised to exercise caution and reduce speed in such conditions.
KROONSTAD / BLOEMFONTEIN
The road is potholed between Bloemfontein and Verkeerdevlei toll plaza. Construction of a second carriageway between Bloemfontein and the Verkeerdevlei toll plaza is taking place. Two lanes are open to traffic and a restriction of shoulder width is in place. A reduced speed limit is enforced. Beware of construction vehicles. Expected date of completion is May 2010. Beware of pedestrians and heavy vehicle activity in Ventersburg. Urban speed restrictions are in place.
BLOEMFONTEIN / COLESBERG
The road is potholed and very uneven in places. Reconstruction of the road is in progress between Orange River bridge and Springfontein with Stop/Go controls in operation. Delays of ± 20 minutes at a time can be expected. Expected date of completion is May 2010.
COLESBERG / THREE SISTERS
Construction works are in progress over a 30km section just north of Three Sisters with Stop/Go control in operation. Three Stop/Go and traffic-light controls may be expected, with waiting periods of ± 20 minutes. Expected date of completion is March 2011. The road is very uneven, caution is advised.
THREE SISTERS/BEAUFORT WEST
Routine maintenance teams maybe encountered. Exercise caution
COLESBERG / NOUPOORT
Sections between Noupoort and Hugoslaagte Station are very narrow with narrow bridges. Overtaking areas are limited and the road is potholed in places.
WILLOWMORE / GRAAFF-REINET
The road is in a fair to good condition. No construction is in operation but routine maintenance may be encountered resulting in short delays.
R54 INTERSECTION AT POTCHEFSTROOM
The road is in fair condition. Resealing and maintenance operations are in progress. Lane closures may be encountered.
POTCHEFSTROOM / KLERKSDORP
Resealing operations are in progress. Lane closures may be encountered.
WOLMARANSSTAD / BLOEMHOF / CHRISTIANA / WARRENTON
The road between Bloemhof and Wolmaransstad is in fair to poor condition and uneven in places. From Christiana to Bloemhof the road is in fair to poor condition and uneven in places. The road is being reconstructed and widened between Bloemhof and Beefmaster, with 2 Stop/Go controls in operation. Delays of 20 minutes at a time may be expected. Reduced speed limits may apply.
HOPETOWN / KIMBERLEY
Construction works between Hopetown and Kimberley with up to 5 Stop/Go controls with waiting periods of approximately 10 minutes at a time can be expected. Expected date of completion March 2010.
KIMBERLEY
The section of Bultfontein Road between North Circular & New Main Streets, has been closed indefinitely due to subsidence of the Big Hole. Alternative routes are clearly signposted.
WARRENTON / STRYDENBURG
Roadmarking works are in progress between Kimberley and Warrenton. Reduced speed limit signs will be posted. Motorists to also drive with caution through the town of Warrenton. Road is in a fair to good condition but becomes bumpy between Hopetown and Strydenburg.
BRITSTOWN / THREE SISTERS
Routine road maintenance teams may be encountered. Duration of Work Ongoing. Construction works are in progress between Three Sisters and Victoria West. There are stop/go controls in operation with waiting periods of approximately 10 minutes at a time can be expected. Expected date of completion is December 2010

National Route N1
Section Beaufort-West to Three-Sisters
Distance 97 km
Description Single carriageway with paved shoulders. Stopping places are provided at regular intervals.
Condition of Road Good.
Comments Routine road maintenance teams may be encountered


National Route N1
Section Three-Sisters to Colesberg
Distance 236 km
Description Single carriageway with paved shoulders. Stopping places are provided at regular intervals.
Condition of Road Fair to Good.
Comments Construction works are in progress 30km north of Three Sisters. Motorists l can encounter up to two traffic control by means of Stop/Go measures during the day and traffic signal units at night with waiting periods on average 15 minutes.

National Route N1
Section Orange River (Provincial Boundary) to Bloemfontein (Sydenham Interchange)
Distance 175 km
Description Predominantly, a two lane single carriageway. The full length of the road has wide paved shoulders.
Condition of Road Fair to satisfactory.
Comments Section 13: between Springfontein and Orange River bridge, has recently been rehabilitated and is in an excellent condition.
A new contract for the road reconstruction has been let between Springfontien (Section 13, km36) and Trompsburg (Section 14, km19). Stop/Go control in place, with expected delays of up to twenty minutes.

National Route N1
Section Bloemfontein to Kroonstad
Distance 189 km
Description Around Bloemfontein, the road is a four-lane dual carriageway with wide paved shoulders; otherwise it is a two-lane single carriageway with paved shoulders and passing lanes on steep gradients. The last 10 km, known as the Kroonstad Bypass, is a four-lane dual carriageway.
Condition of Road Generally good with the exception of the construction area mentioned below.
Comments Construction of a second carriageway is underway between Bloemfontein and the Verkeerdevlei toll plaza. While two lanes are open to traffic, restriction of shoulder width and carriageway cross-overs will be encounterd in construction zones. A reduced speed limit is in force along the entire construction area and motorists must be aware of construction traffic entering and exiting work zones
Motorists should be alert to pedestrian and heavy vehicle activity in Ventersburg, where an urban speed restriction is in place.


National Route N1
Section Kroonstad to Vaal River (Free State – Gauteng Provincial Boundary)
Distance 102 km
Description Partly a single carriageway with alternating passing lanes in each direction and wide gravel shoulders, and partly a four-lane single carriageway, except for the 10 km portion beyond the Vaal Toll Plaza, where it becomes a four-lane dual carriageway with wide paved shoulders.
Condition of Road Good.

National Route N1
Section Vaal River (provincial boundary) to Johannesburg
Distance 64 km
Description Four-lane dual carriageway freeway with wide paved shoulders.
Condition of Road Good.
Comments Motorists should beware of pedestrian activity along the route. Additional street lighting has been installed at the Ennerdale Interchange.

National Route N1
Section Johannesburg to Pretoria (N4 Interchange)
Distance 84 km
Description Four-lane dual carriageway freeway from Soweto to Roodepoort changing into six-lane dual carriageway freeway from Roodepoort to Pretoria.
Condition of Road Good.
Comments Construction of additional lanes and other improvements. Lane restrictions in off peak periods.

The Backup will depart from Centurion at +- 2pm for Gariep sleep over.Contact no for the back up is 082 467 8782
