Is it only me? New look to the Home page?

Since going onto the forum a few minutes ago I now have the 'portal' latest topics coming up automatically on the left of the screen.

Is this a new modification to the forum??

I don't like it!!

If it is a new mod can we please have an option in our profile to turn if off and idividualise the mod?

I kinda like it. I almost exclusively use the latest topics to catch up on recent stuff. I open each topic in a new tab and do my reading there.

But, it does kind of catch your eye too much. Perhaps if it scrolled 10x slower? Yes, or turn it off in your preferences - good suggestion (if it's possible!)

I usually use the 'view posts since last visit' to catch up.

Brings up all the threads posted on since your last visit.

Reasons for adding the 'latest topics' to the Home page:
1. I think some only use Portal and forget there are other topics too.
2. New posts are frequently posted in inappropriate/irrelevant categories.

No - ??????? the polls - personally this is a new development and i like it as i dont have to scroll through all the posts to find the new posts - now i can at a 1ste glance and interact on the post is want to.

But you don't have to scroll through anything to find posts??? All you need to do is click on 'View posts since last visit'
and all the threads that were posted on since you were last on the forum are brought up on screen.

Now that is a real 'no-brainer'

No - I still dont agree with you - keep this - makes life easier especially if you dont have a lot of time to loo for the posts and sometimes skip a few days at a time due to whatever reason.

I would prefer an option where I could choose to have it on screen or not - but then that is me.

Maybe I just do not like change imposed on me to something I do not use and find more cumbersome than the way I check for posts since my last visit.

I liked the "Portal' option. I don't always log on to view the forum

I like to see at a glance who is logged on

Fully agree with Johan on this point. We use the forum to interact - some more that others - it is nice to see who is active and who you might be talking to direct.

No-one really likes change as we get settled in our comfortable ways.
Unless ofcourse that it is an improvement

I personally don't think that this will encourage more people to post or contribute as some people are "READERS" and others are "POSTERS"( excuse terminology)

If it does change, we can just get used to it !

So what's the chance of being able to 'close' the Latest Topics on the page or select in Profile to have it there or not?

ie - there by default with the option to 'switch it off'?

No sorry DaveS, it's part of the structure of the page.

With this structure the Portal is in fact unnecessary...
which might bring another change.

Also note that the colour of the icons indicate posts not viewed since last visit.

Regardless off all the blah - lets hope this new innovation stays - makes reacting on all active threads easier
