Midweek Cullinan GS fun
Being on leave and not wanting to waste a second of it, I proposed a mid-week outing. With the recent rains, I decided to keep it close to home and decided to head off towards Cullinan. Mario and his son Jaco, and Sias joined the expedition.
Meeting up at Atterbury Shell. For a change we met around 08:30 to give the commuters time to disappear. And with us still being in vacation mode, we couldn't see ourselves getting out of bed earlier anyway.
Our first stop of the morning. We took the road through Olympus heading out towards the east. Although the road was dotted with puddles, we did not encounter serious muddy terrain. Most of it was packed down quite nicely by earlier traffic.
Looking back towards Olympus. It's quite a thrilling downhill and uphill to have so early in the ride. It was interesting to see all the new estates that popped up in this area (and then some horses grazing in the road!)
From there we took a little bit of tar towards Boschkop and then zigzagged through there until we came to the Old Bronkhorstspruit road that took us to Sambok Bar. The temptation was great to stop for some refreshments, but we went past to the quarry a couple of kilometers further. It's quite a unique experience riding the heavier bikes up and down the banks. The only incident was when Jaco misjudged the traction on his 125 around a 90-degree turn in a sandy corner. Good thing Mario was just behind to lend a helping hand.
The obligatory group photo. Shockingly no BMW in the picture.
We then took the railway service road around the back towards Rayton and it was quite pleasant to see it quite overgrown and lush green. Sometime last year the weather wizards predicted a long and dry summer, but it was probably only for the George area... We had a nice lunch at the Cullinan Hotel, after which we headed back towards Rayton along a seldomly-used railway service track that is very overgrown and grassy. Here we are taking a short break to admire Jaco's 3-snakes-and-eat-some-dirt experience,
At Rayton we retraced our steps back to Sambok Bar for the earlier-missed Rum & Coke(s)(s)(s).
And this is what shared riding pleasure is all about. And being able to do it while a lot of people are back slaving away in front of their desks just makes is so much more special!
Thank you Mario, Sias & Jaco for joining me. It was really a great ride with great company.

Re: Midweek Cullinan GS fun
Thanks for the guiding Marnus! It was lots of fun and Jaco had lots to tell his buddies this afternoon! It was nice to sharpen up some skills in the quarry and the banter (as always) was great!

Ja OK vryf dit nou in!
Dit lyk lekker, veral wanneer julle die hele wereld vir julself het
