Re: Blood Run - Add your name?
LOL @ THE machine
Shame... the tannie was very adamant that JR take a picture of THE machine. She explained that it separates plasma & platelets from your blood. Much like dialysis. The platelets only last 5 days, but usually by day 3 it's all gone - so much demand for it! They do leave you enough to get by, so don't worry about that...
I was expecting to fill up a sachet or two, but they only grabbed 5 tubes to test first. Goodness... the paperwork was quite intimidating... asking everything from when last you went to the dentist, and if you have received sex in exchange for drugs, money or other favors!!! But they only really want to know if you feel that your blood is safe for others We will be contacted around Wednesday to say how much blood & platelets we can donate.
Thank you participants - it was nice to see ya'll there! And for our camera man that didn't flinch a bit when they stuck the needle into MY arm!!!
Can someone tell Richard to get on with the first aid training now?

Re: Blood Run - Add your name?
I went to donate myself at my usual Atterbury Value Mart clinic.
They told me I need it for my arthroscopy on Wednesday and then don't come back for 4 months after... !
Re First Aid - I'm working on another training provider a.t.m. that I met at the BMW Rider Academy Course on Friday.
I'll be in touch with them after my op...

Re: Blood Run - Add your name?
Donating blood is quite simple - youre in and out in roughly 15 minutes and the product is used to save lives. The platelets and bloodplasma is the higher quality products that is always in short supply as the demand therefore is higher than the incoming product.
Donating it is a longer process - you have to be hooked up to the "Machine" for 2 hours whilst your blood is being circulated and pumped back whilst the platelets and plasma is being siphoned off.
Seems if we pass their testing procedures we will henceforth be paying these ladies a visit every month.

Re: Blood Run - Add your name?
Yes LeRoy.. Those who were there on Saturday are on their database now.
The info is for those who still want to get their blood tested for possible blood and platelet donation.
It's never too late.
