Re: BMW GS Eco 1000
The meeting was attended by a dozen or so interested riders. An E-mail group was set up. If you want to join on, call Roger at Bavarian East.
Roger, assisted by Colin and others, is going to plan routes from Midrand to Clarens and Clarens to Garieb Dam. There will likely be two routes - gentler to cater for both beginner/less experienced GS riders and somewhat wilder for those who prefer more "Challenge"-ing stuff.
The departure point (Maxis on M1 at Midrand) is compulsory and odometer readings will be taken. The Clarens check-in point at the overnight is also compulsory for us.
Overnight accommodation is per rider's budget + choice - Camping, B+B etc. A serious braai (be sure to register for it!) will be presented.
Next morning another two routes towards Gariep Dam with another compulsory Check-in point. Again Accommodation is per choice to suit the rider's budget. The details of the evening's entertainment are not divulged yet!
The return from Gariep is likely to offer the most exciting rides...! Depending on interest, one, two or even more days of dirt routes are in the offing - perhaps tracking other past runs.
The ride offers major backup - mechanical, medical, etc. as may be needed along a set route (tar) so dirt routes will parallel to this as much as possible to facilitate speedy assistance.
If you've never been to a GS event so far, or if you want to be part of this growing GS camaraderie from over the country, then this ride is for you...
a 1 000kms round trip to stretch the comfort zone a little?
Costs are defined on the website.
Value for money?
I guess that depends on your individual budget priorities right now.

Re: BMW GS Eco 1000
Well, I have to decide today, if I want to be challenged.
And whilst some aspects of the new format do appeal to me, I just cannot get exited enough. I would have rather done the Alfie Cox bash at Mooi River instead, but had to pass because of time constraints.
Hmm....

Re: BMW GS Eco 1000
I have registered, but will defer the decision to commit (pay) until after this fridays club meet. Maybe some exitment will spill over and convince me to commit. I still perceive of this Eco jol as a bit of a damp squib, despite the fact that BMW will make it a superb jol, from an organisational point of view. Having to go to midrand on a friday morning to punch the ticket, and then negotiate the rush hour mania seems daft. I want to be heading in the other direction, far away from it all.
