Unique 1976 BMW R100S Willi Michel racer FOR SALE
From David Wells, Australia:
I have a unique 1976 BMW R100S Willi Michel racer for sale.
My bike was ordered through a European BMW dealership in 1976.
Willi Michel (WM) only produced bikes for purchase though BMW dealers in 1975-76 and it cost more than the R100RS.
WM made two versions: a full race bike and a road registrable race bike.
My bike is the latter and has additional Willi Michel serial numbers (*WM008*) stamped on the engine and gearbox.
I bought the bike in 2002 from a Dutch company called Investment Bikes.
It is original condition with a genuine 53,000klm on the speedometer.
Apparently it came from a private collection in Holland which Investment Bikes purchased.
I have kept all parts that have been removed.
There is also a clear faring screen that will go with the bike.
Originally the bike came with K&N filters but I removed them as they were prone to falling off.
I installed a BMW drilled aribox and standard filter. The K&Ns are with the parts as are the rusted rearsets / clipons and sundry other items.
Don Wilson rebuilt the gearbox and replaced the crown pinion.
When Don had the gearbox out he informed me that flywheel had been lightened and that it looked like Swiss cheese.
He was the one who told me that the inlet and exhaust tracts had been ported and dimpled, and that the valves were larger than standard.
Don also rejetted and tuned the carbs. Don said he had seen a photo of a WIlli Michel racer before but mine was the first he had seen in the flesh.
He and I believe it is the only one in Australia.
I saw a Willi Michel R90S based racer a few years ago on the IBMWR website and he was asking $15,000USD.
The bikes were built to rolling stock by BMW then transported to WM who then did the following: Large capacity sump (genuine BMW)
Braced frame
Rear sets foot pegs & clip-on handlebars
fairing and solo seat by Motor Arnheim
BMW M sport racing colours
Larger inlet & exhaust valves
Ported inlet & exhaust tracts with dimpled finish
336 cam shaft
Drilled flywheel
Close ratio gearbox
The work I have done includes:
Grimeca replica BMW pattern discs
Braided SS brake lines (ADR approved)
Reconditioned and indexed gearbox
Reconditioned brake master cylinder
2 into 1 SS race exhaust (NSW EPA approved)
Marzzochi remote reservoir shocks
Reed valve crankcase breather
New SS rear sets & fairing cross bar
Cable operated rear brake
Polymer lined petrol tank
Reconditioned tachometer
Progressive fork springs
New brake pads front and rear
New handlebars grips
Uprated headlight globe
New airfilter, battery and tyres about 2,000klm ago.
Marzocchi shocks reconditioned including shaft re-chroming (cost around $400).
I am looking for the best offer above $15,000USD and can be contacted on 0011 61 2 4963 5157.
The bike is located in Newcastle, NSW, Australia.
