Autocom Intercoms Empty Autocom Intercoms

Post by Renier 22nd June 2009, 21:33

For those that may still be shopping the British Autocom intercom system offers excellent value for money. Well worth investigating. I have had mine for a few years now.
Just remember to get a system that runs off the bike's power.

Fully agree with Renier - have been using mine since 2005 - on the provious model LT - had it reinstalled on the new LT. Batteries tend to wear flat as the day progresses. Having it direct on the bikes power source ensures that you have quality of service throughout.

There is a site I visited it last weekend after a very long search. It compare the Baehr, the Starcom 1 and the Autocom. I will look in my history and PM you the site. You will be amazed what you will/can get for half the fortune some people want for their systems. I am in the market and am busy with extensive research. Question Question Question

GPS4AFRICA is a Baehr agent and you guys are welcome to come and test the Baehr system.

We have demo Baehr Open and Full Face helmets in all sizes available with test units, so you are welcome to come and test RIDE it on your own bike and experience the best quality available in motorcycle comms.

Before you buy any motorcycle communication system take it for a ride and decide for yourself.

Nothing compares to Baehr!

Here it is also a matter of how much are you prepared to spend.

We started off with the Supertooth Moto obtainable from Incredible Corruption and Vodaworld. It is so good we are still using it, after three years.

Bike to bike about 400m line-of-sight and battery power continuous for about 5h. I believe the sets cost now about R900 per bike/helmet. It links the cellphone via bluetooth for crystal clear sound, voice activation or as said, intercom. For the men; an on/off button is provided if too much noise come from behind Twisted Evil

I have modified my earpiece to incorporate the bike's sound system and now can enjoy, music/cellphone/ intercom for less than R2k. Spare parts available from Midrand over the counter.

As said, depending on your budget but this is very efficient for the price.

Autocom Intercoms Empty Re: Autocom Intercoms

Blue tooth and cellphone technology is amazing but maybe it is a case of "gogga maak baba bang" but having a device transmitting a radio signal from right next to my brain for 5 hours or more raises the much debated topic of what is the impact of that radio frequency on one's brain.
The Baehr system is good but when I looked, the Autocom offered the best value for money. I imported mine before there was a local agent but I see there are some Pta distributors as well now. You do not have to be an electronic genius either to install the system. I note that the latest models also offer a wide range of add on options. You can communicate perfectly with your pillion whilst travelling at speeds that are well above the legally allowed limits. Then on those rare occasions when you travel through Maputo on a Saturday afternoon you would wish that you had never plugged it in.

Then you're not traveling fast enough pirat

Seriously, I think the potential damage from the transmitter (usually stuck on the outside of the helmet) is negligible compared to the cell phones we shove up our ears for the better part of each day.

I prefer the bluetooth ones because I'm a bit forgetful to remember when I'm plugged into the bike. And in many instances I can go into a shop and back without breaking the pairing. The drawback I found is switching the different devices (headset / GPS / phone bluetooth) on in the right order and to make sure everything is paired before you start riding, because to troubleshoot your wireless connections at 120kph is no easy task What a Face

Autocom Intercoms Empty Re: Autocom Intercoms

Post by ChristoEngelbrecht 3rd July 2009, 19:32

I am using the Autocom system on both my R1200GSA an K1200LT.

I have connected the radio/CD, IPod, GPS, Bluetooth for the cell as well as the 2way radio to both the bikes and it is a charm.

I like my music and when the wife is at the back I she see a lot more around us than I do. So she can tell me where to look without using some obscure type of sign language.

When she starts complaining about the slow speed we are traveling I may choose to ignore.

The 2way radio's have a reach of around 5 Km's which is good enough for me and the kids when we travel together.

I also compared the three big systems and at that stage only the Autocom was available locally.

Lawrence started importing the Starcom about 18 months ago and because he is also on the Club Cape committee most of the BM club members bought from him.

If anybody needs his number you can find it on the Club Cape website.

Renier - you made mention of local dealers - i need a new microphone boom - extensive daily use has taken its toll on the boom in my helmit.

I tend to agree with Renier - am very happy with the service the Autocom has given us over the last 5 years and odd 90 000km's.

Maybe Andre must visit Pauli and see if they can sort out his problems with his current system.

Leroy, The URL http://www.saautocom.co.za/shopdirect/
from an earlier post lists all the local agents. I believe the Kawasaki agency in Jean ave, Clubview, Centurion next to thr KIA garage stocks Autocom products but I have spoken to the guy from R2H in Bellville to get some things.
