Heidenau Tyres ???
I have heard many many very good reports on these tyres, I know that "hh" (Hardey Hugo) is very happy with them on his 800GS and so is JohnST on his 990. There are also numerous threads on the Wild Dog Forum praising these tyres, but also a few complaining.
In two of the latest trip reports, the Buffalo Rally and the Around Lesotho trip, there were problems with de-laminating on these tyres. I know that the one on the Buffalo belonged to Andre Henrico and the Dealer replaced his tyres at no cost to Andre, that is good from the dealer. I am also aware that there was a problem with the first batch sent to SA, but Andre bought his tyre in Jan 2009.
In case you did not see a pic of the de-laminating tyre here we go:
What do you guys think ?

Re: Heidenau Tyres ???
Two people in the club have had this problem - will need convincing that it will not happen again.
Guess that time will tell.
Not sure why they did not pull that batch from dealers. They must have known where the tyres of that batch went to.

Re: Heidenau Tyres ???
Must say, they are still my current choice to put on next, but I am nervous... I am quite happy with the response of the suppliers though, I have theoretical confidence to proceed...

Re: Heidenau Tyres ???
Although I have a leak during the trip to Sani Pass, I'll keep the tyre and will replace the front wheel for another...
BUT....I keep the speed under 130 Km/h...
just in case...rs

Re: Heidenau Tyres ???
From Mr Bonotto's experience I think the problem lies with the bead design. Under load and speed the tyre leaks air past the bead. This causes loss of pressure, excessive tyre flex and heat build-up, which then causes the delamination.
Because the Heidenhua carcass is so stiff, you do not see or feel the flat tyre and only realise there is a problem once the delamination takes place.
No air leaks are present under stationary conditions.
My 2c of opinion.
Heidenhau will really have to prove otherwise over a long period before I am convinced otherwise.
I the meantime I will be using Anakee's, Tourances and TKC's

This WAS my tyre, and can report the following;
I am satisfied with the supplier’s reaction to my incident; I will not be out of pocket in any way.

Re: Heidenau Tyres ???
I think I have a better chance with the tubes? But why oh why does the 800 still use tubes - will be the only reason that I will upgrade to the 2011 tubeless 850GS.
Buffles... I am still giggling on the inside. But it will get better...

Chris no supplier can refund my life if their tyre caused a fatal accident. I am not willing to take that risk. The DOT test should have sorted out any problems of this kind.
Glad the supplier sorted you out financially. But in my books, no money can make up for safety and the lack of peace of mind I will have, using a product that might be inferior.
I am also not sure if this tyre is BMW approved. If it is not, you might loose your warranty in case of a failure.

Re: Heidenau Tyres ???
I've seen this happen to alot of other tyres, there has been endless debate about the Heidi's I say if you haven't tried it you do not have the frame of reverence to make an opinion on the tyre, I have now abused 2 back tyres and one front tyre and tried to destroy it, done decent speeds with them and done alot of offroad. This tyres are really good, NOT just good value for money, they are VERY GOOD FULL STOP!
You will have problems with any make, I have seen 50 TKC delaminating for every 1 Heidi, that you can argue is due to the volume of TKC on the road, fair but it still happens, so by previous posts then you should fear for your life with a TKC as well.
But fearing for your life due to the possibility of a tyre delaminating on a bike is like an oxymoron to me..... bike riding is dangerous so the tyres is just one of the 100 other things you should fear.
My opinion, but I believe I have the frame of reverece to comment seeing I have tried trailwings, anakees, heidi's, mich desert, tkc, and perelli scorps.
