Splutter... splutter..... then dead.....
You guys may know what was the problem with the ST ......
Yesterday afternoon I started the ST to go home after work. At first it struggled a bit to start, but when I got him started, he didn't want to idle properly. It was spluttering and lost about 500rpm with each splutter. I took the revvs up a bit, but to no avail. After idling like this for a short time, he just died on me.
I asked one of my fellow biking colleagues to see if he can find the problem. The thought was, that maybe he's got an airlock, so we opened the tank. He also fiddled with the wires, pushed ST forwards and backwards, but ST was still spluttering, and at one stage he didn't want to start at all. We were checking for a couple of minutes, and then when I started him, brrrrrrm, and he was idling normal.
I must say that I filled him up the day before yesterday (also on my way home after work), went home and came to work yesterday with no problems. I also filled up with 95 unleaded for a change. I try to use 95 octane, but it is not available at all the garages.
What are your ideas ???? Madnohb....... has your wife experienced something like this with her ST ????

Re: Splutter... splutter..... then dead.....
If I have to venture a guess.... either petrol filter or air filter? It doesn't sound like electrical in nature. But with all the computers/electronics in the bikes nowadays you will never know - remember the LT ESA problem that was fixed with a software upgrade?
I guess it should be easy to rule out the filters by having them checked out...

Re: Splutter... splutter..... then dead.....
never experienced that before but I think Marnus is on track.
My guess would also be the fuel filter.......scary sh!t in fuel storage tanks these days.......just ask Wahl. It cost him a bike (blown engine)

Re: Splutter... splutter..... then dead.....
Thank you very much for your inputs. I will definitely check the fuel filter. The rubbish is probably still stuck there .......
Another thing to consider is the fact that I filled him up at a different garage than normal (the garage where I used to fill up, has closed down). Maybe I should not use the latest garage again

Quite interesting how you refer to "him" and I refer to "her" - both referring our bikes
But if your bike is giving you a hard time, it's probably a "she" hehehe.

Re: Splutter... splutter..... then dead.....
Thanks GSlady - WOMEN/LADIES/GIRLS ROCK !!!!!
How can a mean power machine be a "she" ????
Maybe the men wish for a very macho girl ....... lol
I'm quite sure it must have been something in the petrol. Haven't had any other problem since. They just put the bike together so that it is not that easy to get to the filters. Thought it would be quickie, but then realised that you have to take HIM apart ............. ha ha ............
