K1200LT Voorste remskywe Empty K1200LT Voorste remskywe

Post by ChristoEngelbrecht 1st March 2009, 03:54

On this subject of disc pads;

I have a business relationship with a brake pad manufacturer that also do OE. For some time I wondered what is the demand for pads amongst our Beemer fraternity? Maybe it will be viable for this company to make pads for us at a fraction of the retail price, at OE standards. The club can perhaps be the selling agent, - to members?

What you say? Must I contact them and get a proposal?

Ja = is kommerwekkend. Eerste wat ek van so geval hoor en ek LT al van 2004 af. Wat nogsl opvallend is, is dat Bavaria die meeste LT's in die land verkoop maar ek sien feitlik nooit enige ander LT's op die pad of by klubrides nie???????????.

K1200LT Voorste remskywe Empty Re: K1200LT Voorste remskywe

Hi all,
I have a K1200S 2008 and had the same Fr. brake disc problem. I complained since new about the "rattle" when on a corrugated road, or when braked hard, and the agent could not find it. Complaned on 1000km service, before 10000km service, on 10000km service and finally one evening in my garage. I held the front brake and pumped the front hard up and down, and heard it load and clear. At forst I thought that the front shock has got an "air-lock" or one of the valves inside seized, which sometimes happens with cars. Especially the older types.
Took my bike in the next day and showed the service manager. The technician phoned me later, informing me that they must replace the disc and fasteners.
I searched the net and follow the following link, having all the re-call and service bulletins listed for any BMW bike.
Interesting reading matter.
This problem started in 2007/8.
I just wonder why only Canadians got re-call/service bulletins done on their bikes, and SA not. Perhaps they way agents do it here, if the customer does complain hard enough, they do nothing......
Anyway, do any K1200 owner's K make a noise like valve clatter, when you start your K in the mornigs or whenever the bike is cold??. Mine does, and apparently there is a mod, the agent must replace I think the cam-chain tensioner with it. Mine has got the the replacement in and still does it every so often.

Smile indeed there are more K owners here........lots of them and good people they are Wink

serious......there is a fix to the rattle at start-up(after the chain tensioner has been done), a very simple one. They only need to fit two thicker washers. Simon of Bavarian East knows exactly about it because......I informed him Twisted Evil . We (the K-owners) are fortunate to have an excellent and very knowledgeable site in BMWSuperbikesdotcom to our disposal. I’ll look for the link but in the mean time you can speak to Simon. The thicker washers sorted the start-up rattle om my K12's....all three of them.

Had the same problem with the timing chain tensioner on the LT - it got stuck and did not come out again. Luckily this happened in town - close to Bavaria - drove straight there. Apparently you can drive like that - at least to the nearest dealership. Bike was still under its 2 year warrantee - so it was replaced by Bavaria.

HI MadnohB, thanks for the "Bavaria" advise,I had contact with my dealer at Northside BMW, the service manager fortunately knows Simon and will contact him.
The baddie is that when I complained in the past, the dealer where I had my K serviced (and let me make it clear, not Northside, where Steve is the service manager) never did anything to get rid of my clatter complain, and I bought a new K1200S last year, hoping the noise is sorted by Germany. Expensive change for nothing!!!!!!!!! R146k later.
Anyway, complain or not, the K is the best of the best!!!!!!!!!!!, any model. I just wish that they imported the K1200S sport like for the USA.
