Re: Rainy day outing
8 members for breakfast at an unplanned venue, even though some had to be "phoned" out of bed......excellent idea. During breakfast the weather improved “somewhat”.
5 of us decided to do a ride anyway. We ended up doing a very nice 226km roundtrip to a cosy pub with a fireplace (and a fire ) where we had coffee.
Sometimes when one least expect it, the ride turns out to be a little gem………thanks for the company and to all the absentees, we missed you

Pity I only read admin's post in GS route at 08:45 about a short breakfast ride still being planned for the roadies. Hope the trip was enjoyable.

Brave people. I will not actively go and ride in the rain. If it rains when I am riding then I will live with it.

Re: Rainy day outing
Nah, nothing to do with bravery.
The Swartruggens ride was cancelled due to the rain so we went for breakfast 20km away. During breakfast, the rain stopped so we decided on a shortish outride. We only had rain for about 10km of the 200km plus ride.

Re: Rainy day outing
Well done to those who took the chance on the rain. You are in mortal danger of being called true 'bikers' gasp
I think had I not been away for the weekend, I might have joined you. Lizell still needs some wet weather practice because you never know when you may be caught unawares and that little practice can go a long way.
Looking forward to the next club ride.

Re: Rainy day outing
Most people avoid riding in the rain - leaving them lacking iro experience in this regard. Experience that can mean the difference between falling or not falling.
The Swartkops training session early in 2005 stated and ended in the pouring rain. I was fortunate enough to attend this session, learning valuable lessons iro wet riding techniques - pity we have not again had such a wet riding session.

Re: Rainy day outing
Rain does not bother me at all. Well the first time I rode a motorbike was in a massive downpour for the day, what a way to start one's riding career with training on wet surface. I ride often in the rain (downpours at times, like today's rain) to and from work, so I rather use to it now. Just have not rode in hail storm, though come to think about it, I rather would not want to ride in a hail storm in the first place and rather go hiding.
My error was that I did not check the forums after I posted the GS cancellation until it was over a hour after departure.

Re: Rainy day outing
I have ridden in the rain a lot. My biggest objection to rain is the dirt that it deposits on the bike which is difficult to get off. I am a fanatic about my bike and keep it spotlessly clean all the time. My son says I am OCD. Obsessive compulsive disorder. I worked in Centurion for a time and often got caught in massive downpours on the Kdp highway on my way back to Randburg. The Sprint has ABS which makes braking in the rain a whole lot safer. Never really been phased by rain but if it is raining will not necessarily use my bike to the office.

Re: Rainy day outing
Guys, all that I can say about the rain is ,Its great and you learn every second while its raining, and to have a great biker infront of you (thats now Jamie) you learn even more and the speed you become more "opened eye"
.
Thanks Jamie and Nick for the "lekker run " and Dave and Dot and Stiennie for the lekker breakfast.

Re: Rainy day outing
A few years ago we were on our way back from the Kokstad area - riding around Lesotho to Bloemfontein and ran into, and evenually through a massive hailstorm (50km's). You cannot stop as there is nowhere to stop safely - especially on the back roads - rather ride through it.
We had the hail coming from our left behind quadrant, so we could turn our faces away from the hail so as not to have our visors damaged. If you wear the correct protective cloting you dont actually feel the hailstones hitting you - you just see it bouncing off. Is an experience to see said hailsones bouncing of the bike at 140+.
Traveling extensively by bike that is the type wheather one has to prepare for and be prepared to handle.

Re: Rainy day outing
As they say sarcasm is the lowest form of "wit" - but having said that "In the hands of a master it is an Art" - your choice which is applicable.
With regards to the LT - and the ribbing i get on my choice of the ultimate bike (IMO) - it does not bother me as it does not defray from the ultimate comfort i travel in daily and the comfort we (Myself & Elsabe) travel in/on when on walk-about.
So enjoy whatever you are riding - i am enjoying my/our LT and i will not change it for any other bike availble on the market. Given the chance to choose again i will again upgrade to the next generation LT.

So, the man got his choice, but a new trailer would also be great on the new LT.????

Re: Rainy day outing
Don't make me mad. I'm running out of places to hide the bodies. Let's skip the insults and get right down to your butt kicking!
Have you ever jack-knifed the trailer?
Geez ....coming to think of it - I had the right to remain silent, but I didn't have the ability.

Such nice large feet and they fit perfect in you mouth. There is an Afrikaans saying "Kop dit is deur jou bel wat jy daar le" - think it is applicable here.
