Re: Routes to the Cape
I have no hassle with time, I am available until the 4th January for the trip. So if you want to add extra days to the trip it is all fine by me. Also rushing would defeat the purpose of enjoying a relaxing ride and stopping for pictures and take in the view of places along the way.

Great, I will make some adjustments then. Is it possible to send me your e-mail address so I can send you the details. I am doing a breakdown of the trip on Excel and want to e-mail it to you. Send me an sms if you want. My number is 0832377609.

Verneukpan is a sure stop over for me. Always wanted to go there. I will await for the spreadsheet, just make sure it is Excel 2003 format. I can't read Excel 2007.

Re: Routes to the Cape
Word also needs to be saved as 2003, not 2007 for me to read it. In fact any Office 2007 file I can't read.
We I get home I take a look at the route.
What about on the return leg via PE, we go through Golden Gate area.

Alun, I tried to convert the document to Word 2003 format and have already e-mailed it to you see if you can open it. I resent the first Word document after converting

Can do. Then we can bring both routes to the next club meeting to obtain additional feed back from other experienced riders.

Re: Routes to the Cape
To Cape Town (Sommerset Wes) is so far from 20th to 23rd Dec.
From Cape Town is so far 24th to 30th Dec, but definitely before the 4th Jan.
Also note dirt roads make up part of to and from Cape Town.

Re: Routes to the Cape
Are you pillioning as wel - then the maximum comfortable distance per day is roughly 500km. We have been travelling quite extensively on the LT over the last 5 years and we rarely do more that 500km's per day. More than that makes the day to full and does not allow enough playing time en route.
Another member (2UP4ADV - Chris) also on an LT, in a previous thread said as long as your pillion is comfortable you will enjoy your ride - and I fully agree with him here. Plan your ride to suit your pillions needs and you will have a nice and enjoyable ride.
When planning a ride for the club, I normally do the planning and before finalizing it i will discuss the matter with Elsabe and get her inputs as i also want her to enjoy the ride. If she is happy with the planning i know the other ladies (Pillions and Riders) will enoy it.
Lastly - you will be riding in the rainy season - remember your rain gear. Enjoy the planning as it is an integral part of the trip.

Well I be all by myself on my bike. Though not sure about Kobus. I also now checking off-road distances to prevent exhaustion, or riding at night.

Re: Routes to the Cape
I will certainly not have a Pillion with me which simplifies matters. Our first day's distance is +-536km. During this part of the route, we could more than likely experience rain but from there onwards, the chances are less. It seems as if we would need to add another day for travelling in order to limit our daily distances to 500km maximum. More important is that we obtain as much good advice from clubmembers with more experience than myself

Re: Routes to the Cape
Those who have done De Hell, how much time did it take to get into De Hell and back to the tar road? What is the condition of the road for 2 novice off-rode riders?

GSlady. Welcome back in Pta from Morungulu. Missed us a lot, huh?! I'm sure you missed your GeSi even more. (The 650 is a GeSie)
Re: Routes to the Cape
Thanks TJ.. was in Pta for a day or two, but close to Rooiberg now, enjoying the beauty of the bushveld (as well as my laptop and 3G)
And you're right about missing my GS - by the way - Nothing small about him! ... If only I had a trailer!!
But at least we can enjoy all our active biking friends' reports and pictures on the forum!
